Advice for lift/tires

Hey guys,

I am fairly new to the taco world. Had my MGM 2017 sport for about a year or so and am just now looking to do some Mods to it. This is the first real vehicle I have owned brand new (I'm 23 lol) so want to get some advice for what I am looking to do.

Below are my goals and some info on what I have so far. Any advice like pros and cons or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I don't do a ton of off roading besides maybe 5-10% when heading to a fishing hole but its very minimal. I do live in New England so we get some decent snow and weather here in the winter months. I will have to use this truck to commute about 45 highway miles to work each day so I plan on modding it for this purpose. ( More so a looks truck vs use)

Here is what I am looking at doing:

Tint windows (Fairly straight forward just need to go to my local guy to do this)
3" Suspension lift ( Was recommended Icon stage 1 lift but seems a bit pricey if I am not off roading ever)
32-33" inch tires (All Terrain)
New blacked out rims( Been looking at Fuel but will need to weigh all my options)

I'm no expert but I have been studying a lot lately. I just did my 18 DCLB sport. Bilstein 5100 front and rear. Set the front the 4 the notch, 1 inch block in the rear, stock coils and uca. The ride is so much better that stock. I did the 1/4 shim for the lean and a ECGS shim for the needle bearing for added insurance. Then went with 265/70/17 SL rated 40 lbs and some mat grey trd pro Sema wheels which I think weigh in at 24 lbs. So that helps me stays with factory weight specs. Rides perfect and no issues at all with allignment. Now we're setting up a time for my son's 18 DCSB sport.

 

What wheels are those?

Options are endless. I wanted to SEE the look on a truck before I picked mine. When I saw what I wanted I knew right away. 500 trucks and I said “that’s the one”. 3 months later I still get excited every time I walk to the truck after work, every time I get in it in the morning. Make sure you love it before spending $$$$. Here’s mine pre-cap.

 

Not really to be honest. Have been able to save up to be able to afford some Mods. My biggest concern is making sure it's done right and will be how I expect it before dropping the money. If I had to put a budget on it, I'd say maybe somewhere around $3,000-4,000 max. I don't want to take the cheap route and screw myself in the end as it is my first new truck so willing to pay to make sure it is done how I want it in the first place!

I am the same way. I want to see it before I do anything drastic so I know what to expect. I will be driving it every single day and want to make sure it is exactly what I dreamed of lol. What are those tire specs/rims?

 

I’ll tell you for a longer commute, which I have as well, I’ve been happy with the RC 4” lift. It still feels like factory because it maintains suspension. That 3” is gonna be a little rougher over the bumps.

I wanted more of a street truck look. A smaller wheel gives you more of an off road look. Don’t get bigger just because. It should match the look you are going for.

 

I'd get All Terrains with the 3 peak snowflake designation, unless you were getting dedicated winter tires.

 

This LB looks super long in silver. I like it. My BBP doesn’t appear to be so extended.

 

Ok so if you want fuel wheels you can figure $900-1000 for the wheels and another 1000-1200 for tires. Which leaves you around $1100 to $900 for suspension if you want to stay at the low end of your budget. Totally possible if you are doing it yourself. If you can stretch to the top of your budget you would be able to have it installed. I personally would recommend something simple. Maybe bilstiens 5100s with the Ome 885s or 888s and an add a leaf in the rear. Or bump up to the full Ome kit. Both should be between 800-1200 bucks. Go on www.Headstrongoffroad.com and look around. They have great prices and better service.

 

Aren't those tires designed for more off road? Or more of a multi purpose?

 

Open your wallet let the moths out and prepare yourself. Once you start you wont be able to stop, I quit heroin but I cant stop moding my truck. Its a hell of a drug. I have the fox series 2.0 shocks and adjustable coil overs not too expensive like the icons are but still lift it high enough to clear 33s no problem if you plan on removing your mudflaps I would not reccomend getting tires wide enough to go past the fender, you will shoot rooster tails of snow on to the cars behind you. I now remove them during the other seasons but winter they are a must with a wide stanced truck. Other than the lift and a decent pair of all terrains you wont need much more for the snow, you should focus more on preparing yourself for the worst (stuck in blizzard) make sure you have all the right gear to get you through a rough winter night. There was a car pile up on the freeway one night, started by a prius going to tahoe and I was stuck in the snow so long about 5 hours, ran out of gas, had no water or food. But I sure as hell had a nice looking truck but was not prepared enough. Good luck with the truck and have fun with it brother.

 

My other thought for someone younger like yourself. Remember you get what you pay for. That $1000 in wheels and $1000 for tires should be starting point. You can find cheaper but you are going to get cheaper.

 

Heck yeah!!! More of a mud tire which mine will almost never see. However they look WAY cooler. They have tires designed for highway but I was going for the look, not the function. I have almost zero concern for mileage / efficiency. I have a second car for commuting and offsetting some of the miles. This is more for enjoyment.

I have a lifted beefy street truck and I love it.
