Well that wasn't exactly a glowing review. Since you seem to be an outlier compared to others on this forum, care to elaborate more on positives versus negatives?

    Thanks,

You going to stop by Rock Therapy after getting your springs next week? Would be cool to see another GFC there.

Bunch of disjointed thoughts after reading your post:
    • Love my Alcan springs, you'll be happy with them.
    • I've slept both ways and prefer having my head towards the narrow end, I'm not very tall though, so I've got quite a bit of room.
    • Mine's not bad to close, it gets easier after figuring out the nuances. Just got to make sure you don't have 6 layers thick of tent in the back when you fold it up. There's lots of material there.
    • I do have some leaking too in between the tent and the frame somewhere. Haven't bothered tracing it down as I don't spend too much time in the rain.
    • I don't have windows and my GFC rubs against the back window trim of the cab, that clearance is too tight for 1st gens
    • My back panel seals nicely against my tailgate, even with it being super bent. I was pretty happy with that. Wonder why yours isn't sealing?

Enjoy Southern Utah and the North Rim. Some of my favorite places to explore!

I'm glad someone isn't blinded by the hype and gave an honest review. Thanks for the tips for the stuff to look out for.

Why are the rest of us “blinded by the hype” if those aren’t issues that we’re experiencing?

A few pages back @wileydavis and @inv3ctiv3 gave me good instruction on how to close mine with the cushions installed.

To summarize unzip the side windows, unzip the back window 6”-12” on both sides, close the camper down to about 12” from fully closed tucking as you go to try to get it flat as possible. Than SLOOOOOOOOOWLY continue to close it ensuring the fabric is tucked out of the way contine to close SLOOOOOOOOWLY, and it should press down all the way. This worked for me. Before doing this this I had to remove the two squares and slide the the larger panel to the rear. Going slow with windows open seems to work...

As for squeaking there’s none on my 3rd Gen, I get a very small amount of water in the bed of my truck but it’s from my tailgate. It’s very minor and in the truck bed only and I have had mine in absolutely torrental rain I stayed 100% dry.

I sleep head in the narrow side. I’m 5’09” inches my wife is about 5” shorter we’re very comfortable that way. If you were 6’ or over I’d think flipping the other way would be better.

Finally the struts... actually I didn’t post on this but mine have some rust too. Seems like they aren’t quite up to the rest of the GFC Standards. Just some part sourced from someone else.

And actually while we’re talking flaws the rear drivers side of my camper has the powder coating wearing off where the two halves meet. Basically is a super tight fit and probably from shaking around it wears down. I haven’t been to worried since it’s Aluminum and can’t rust. I’ll prob hit it with a rattle can if it gets to bare metal.

In the truck bed with tent open and all flaps closed. Water is dripping from top frame rail in the rear. I haven't had good opportunity to try and track it down. There was about a cup of water in the bed after a night of rain.

Not sure what Rock Therapy is or where, but I'll do a search and find out. Would love to do a side by side comparison with another 1st gen.

Thanks for clarifying. While not ideal - sounds like it can be addressed with some tweaking. The rear cab rub tho - maybe not so much....

You have 12 posts, and you’re calling someone else an ‘outlier’ because he gave an honest review?

What’s the point of hiding poor reviews? All it does it continue to sweep issues under the rug..

Id be pissed if I bought a supposed ‘perfect’ product only to discover problems and that they’re ignored or hidden on purpose for ‘positive’ reviews.

I can tell you’re new here, but that attitude won’t get you very far.

I think you misunderstand what he meant. Calling @blind cowboy’s review an outlier isn’t insulting, it’s merely a statement of fact. Most reviews have been positive, therefore a differing viewpoint is an outlier.

The seal to the tailgate can be tricky. When Ross was installing mine he ended up swapping out for a taller piece of the weather stripping. Seems to be a good seal now.

Hard to say it’s an outlier when there are only around 50 on the streets. 10+ of them are brand ambassadors. Maybe 20 customers that received their campers are here on the forums and have spoken about it. And the remaining customers aren’t here on this forum and haven’t said anything. His points are valid and there are other people seeing the leaks and gas strut corrosion. Like I mentioned, hype train.

Edit. I’m not bagging on the camper, I’m super stoked on mine, whenever I get it. I can’t wait. I just don’t think everyone should mask the issues going on because there is so much hype in the community for this camper right now.

I’m not sure if you guys know what a statistical outlier is. All that was posted was a question based on his review being different from the majority. A poor review is an outlier when the majority of reviews have been positive. That does nothing to take away from the validity of it or in anyway call it into doubt or insult the person who posted it. It has nothing to do with hype or covering anything up.

Agreed, unfortunately too many people come on here looking to argue or put someone else down. I agree completely I thought calling that review an outlier was a polite and well worded comment. Attacking someone with a low post count over a valid post probably won’t get them to contribute more. Besides that it’s good to hear all sides and as the first slightly negative review/ feedback his review is an outlier.

As far as rust on the struts, sadly it may just something that happens. I’ve never seen any truck topper that hasn’t had those rust like crazy and on a truck cap they’re sealed up inside. Long as they’re available to replace it shouldn’t be a big deal every 4 or 5 years.

For the record if you read back through the 100’s of pages not one single person not even the builders said this camper was ‘perfect’ that’s why they’ve continued to change and evolve the concept as they build, they began fogging the inside, adding plugs, line-x-ing different parts, changing suppliers for hardware, bolts, switches, ext ext as feedback has come back. They’ve even been kind enough to send out upgrades and replacement parts to those of us who have our campers so we can benefit from the changes as well.

GFC isn’t building a perfect product, it’s thier willingness to listen and respond that’s continued to make them successful.

Okay Bill Nye. The point is there is about 20 people that aren't brand ambassadors that have spoken about the camper. Let's say 18 are good, 2 are bad... or even 19 are good and 1 is bad. 20 samples isn't enough to make anything statistically significant, unless you're a data picker. I think your dragging in the rave reviews from all the guys that got these campers for marketing purposes, which is clouding your head.

Not at all. I have my own and have for longer than most of the people on this forum. It’s not perfect. I’ve had small leaks to chase, seals to adjust, lessons to learn with getting the top down easily, replacement parts from GFC for various changes they’ve made since I picked mine up, etc. I have no interest in trying to get people to buy this camper. You can even find posts from me where I recommend a competitor’s product based on people’s wants/needs.
