I get that. I’m asking has anyone EVER used ext warranty. In my circle of friends / family I literally don’t know anyone who has ever used it. Thus one of the reasons I would never buy. In fact I’ve heard a few stories of being denied/having issues but NEVER a benefit.

Just some things to consider about GAP insurance.
    • Neutral info: GAP Insurance simply engages if the covered vehicle is totaled, and the value paid by your car insurance carrier is less than what you owe. GAP Coverage simply pays the difference to the lien holder and means you don't have to come up with any deficiency (some GAP policies have limits though)
    • Neutral Info: Typical dealer cost for a 60 month GAP policy is at or less than $350.
    • PRO GAP argument: If you do some research, you'd find that it's rare that any lease doesn't have GAP insurance coverage in it. Since the bank is the actual owner of the vehicle on a lease, you'd have to give some credence to this being pretty well studied by them and making sure to mitigate risk.
    • PRO GAP argument: If you are trading in a vehicle, and owe more on it than you're being given and are not offsetting that with cash down, you are introducing negative equity into your new car deal. This is more common than you might think, and for those in that situation, GAP insurance makes even more sense than usual. Your loan balance Vs the value of your new vehicle is further apart in this case, depending on where you are in the life cycle of the loan.
    • CON GAP argument: If you are financing less than 80% of the vehicle's invoice (Its value at time of sale, regardless of what you paid) then in many states, it's actually illegal for a dealership to sell, or a finance company to fund, given that it's not considered to be in the consumer's best interest to have it.
I'm risk adverse when it comes to depreciating assets, so my advice to anyone that asks me about GAP in particular that it's a cheap way to indemnify yourself from a financial loss especially in the first two or so years that you own, whatever car we're talking about. Later in the loan's life cycle, you would have a greater chance to have equity.

Extended Service Agreements are much more dependent on who you are, and how you think.
    • Very mechanically inclined folks would be less likely to find themselves in a jam if they had to fix something, or find the right help for a reasonable cost.
    • Less mechanically inclined people that may struggle to source the appropriate help at a reasonable cost may find it suitable for their needs to just drop off the broken car at the dealership and let the ESA do the work for them.
    • For people with more economic freedom, they're more free to roll the dice as it were, and just pay for whatever repair may be needed later on if it happens after the base warranty expired. A person who is living a more budget restricted life at the moment, it may make more sense for them to pay 20 bucks a month more for that additional coverage, and their monthly payment never changes regardless of what repairs are needed, as opposed to paying 20 bucks a month less without it, and adopt the risk the occasional $800 repair may clobber their budget every so often.

I remember years ago the automatic transmission totally shit itself in my mom's car and it was literally 2 miles from when the extended warranty was up. They gave her a hard time and did not want to cover it at first but eventually they did cover everything.

I had a BMW Z4 that had a bad alternator that caused consequential damage to the radio, the battery etc.

The BMW certified Pre-owned warranty covered the $3,500 repair.

In that vehicle, there were few DIY options for radio replacement at the time.

One question, when you picked up your vehicle and they explained Entune did they mention that the functionality is going to change and you're going to lose some of the apps?

I actually don't have a Tacoma yet,I realized that I made it seem as though I did! I'm in the market now for one, just trying to take my time. But I had no idea about the Entune...is that common??

The way they pitched the extended warranty to me was something like 100 a month 50 a month 20 a month which one of these do you want? Didn't give an option to decline it. I guess that's how they get you. Make sure you say none

The issue is that Toyota has a shitty central entertainment system called Entune. The Entune is how you change vehicle settings so just replacing with aftermarket is a no go.

They are removing a couple of features they used to sell people the upgraded system.

My curiosity is if they are knowingly misleading new buyers. I bought a few weeks ago and was not told. Seems shady to me.

I just passed over 100k miles and haven't needed to do anything other than required maintenance. When I bought the truck I went back and forth about buying an extended warranty, and it was good that I didn't. I know people have issues, but if its a Toyota or Honda I'm not buying the warranty.

Why would you possibly need 60 months of coverage. With a Tacoma you should owe less than its worth, even at 0 down, in less than a year.

Entune access to ad Free Pandora.

So, to put it directly. They used this feature to upsell, and then decided not to renew their payment to Pandora thus putting them on a path that requires Toyota owners to remove the app via software update.

That’s some serious miles in 4-5 years.

GAP Term follows the length of the finance term. You can’t buy it for any term less than your contract term when bought at time of sale. You can cancel after a period of time, and the refund is sent to the lien holder, reducing what you owe.

Yeah I know. Thats what a 56 mile, then 150 mile roundtrip commute will do. Thankfully I got the hell out of the mid-atlantic and now have a resonable 2.5 mile commute. 80k miles in the first 2.5 years and 20k in the last 2.

I get that, but it is worthless after you owe less than its worth. Like I said I get GAP equivalent from USAA at about $6 a month. The way it works is that is pays 20% more than the value of the vehicle if it is totalled. So unlike GAP after 3 years you still get the additional 20% and would cost $360 for the life of the loan.

I got a 2017 TRD PRO and I'm looking for solutions for an exhaust. The TRD PRO exhaust is spec at 42 db's which is very weak in my opinion. I need something more throaty. Corsa currently doesn't build an exhuast for this model of Tacoma yet. DOes anyone know of other manufacturers that make a more aggressive sounding exhaust for this model?
