Good question. Having the blue coating surround but not cover the low beam filament provides a whiter light at the edge of the pattern, so when you look at the headlights if you are not directly in the beam it looks a little whiter. Unfortunately it sacrifices the high beam performance to do so. Purely cosmetic. However how often do you see people saying they want their halogen lights to be whiter? It is their way of providing that whiter look without affecting the performance of the low beam. GE took the better approach with their +120s and just did it on the leading tip, so that the high beam is not affected. But they are quiet a bit harder to come by, and even in their following +130 generation bulb they covered the high beam like Philips did.

Ah I see. Pretty smart way of going about addressing the appearance of the lights from a perspective other than the driver.

I love reading truly informative posts from folks that have done the research and have the experience, not an opinion, to make a solid statement. All of your posts in this thread are spot on the money @crashnburn80. Well said.

Honestly, when I'm driving down the road and some fckhead has LEDs in his old halo housings, I just want to choke the crap out of them. It's the one thing I totally would support a law against... Putting LEDs in and blinding everyone with them :censored:

That is against the law. Unfortunately people just rarely get cited for it.
