Water Dripping from doors

Hi guys, I recently got my 2nd tacoma (2010 d-cab sport) and I noticed that whenever im done washing my truck or after opening the door after a rainy day, water pours out of the holes in the bottom of the doors.... not just a small drop or two, but anywhere between 1-3 ounces. It looks like there are several drainage holes in the door, but my 04 didnt seem to have this and shouldnt the doors be sealed?. Anyone else notice this or is it just my truck? Would this amount of water eventually affect my window motors? Thanks in advance!

 

I've never noticed water in my doors. You may need to go back to the dealer on that one.

 

Nope something is wrong be it window seal leaking or drain holes plugged. Bring it back before you have really big problems.

 

there are drain holes.. I was just in my door the other day. but maybe check the seals on the window/door?

 

that is completely normal,thats why the inside of the door (behind the door panel )has plastic on it,to keep the water off the door panel or leak inside the truck.the holes underneath the door are water drains.

 

I just called my salesman about 30 minutes ago... said its not normal and he thinks that the guys who shot the rustproofing may have shot too thick of a coat near the drainholes in the door and it may be plugging them.... said to bring it in this week but i think i will go have a look to see if that is really the case. My first instinct was the seals, but i checked all 4 doors, and the seals are all good both on the windows as well as the doors.

 

Water in the doors is perfectly normal. That's why you never mount a speaker crossover inside the door.

It runs out when you open the door because there is still some in the door and you swing the door open it moves to one side and comes out.

 

You can check the door rustproofing yourself by shoving up a piece of wire in the drain holes. If it goes real easy it's fine. You should be able to go above the rustproofing no problem. You can even use the wire to clean them out if they have become blocked.

Sounds to me like a awful lot of water to be sitting inside the door. You forgot to mention you had rustproofing added. Even if you bring it in, because you have added rustproofing it is in your best interest to add check the door drains regularly just encase they become blocked to your maintenance schedule. It should stop moving around the inside of the door after awhile, Don't forget to check the tailgate drains also using the same method.

 

^It would be a good idea to use a wire to clear the hole regardless. Why not do in 12 seconds what it would take you 5 hours at the dealership to accomplish?

 

PS: Chances are when you're washing your truck you're using some sort of pressure nossel like a sprayer or a power washer too. Point being, that high pressure water sprayed on the windows will force it's way into the door. It's not a defect, just physics.

 

thanks for the replies... I did check the inside with some s/s wire after getting posting my reply... it didnt seem like there was a problem. Holes were clear and the whole channel inside the door was too.

 

What did you use to wash your truck? A garden hose should not do that. I sort of pressure wash my truck and I don't ever get that kind of water in there.

Things to check

Make sure the windows are up all the way. They can be closed but still not up the entire way. If you spray some soapy water around the window frame then get in and start up the truck with the air on high you should see just a few bubbles near the mirror and near the back of the window. Small bubbles. That would kind of check the seal. On my truck the seals fit pretty tight man.

Can your hear the wind when driving down the road? Really you shouldn't hear it.

If the drains are clear and you have that kind of water something is wrong, a seal is missing or something like a seal out of place.

I can see that kind of water getting in there is the windows where not tight up but not even close to my experience.

 

trap: No I am not pressure washing at all. It is from a garden hose. My truck is parked on an incline, so im thinking that since the last drainhole is not at the very end of the door, water collects in the little corner until i swing the door open, or move it to flat ground. However, no water at all should be entering the door at all though correct? haha i dont hear wind blowing when i drive and inside the cab is quiet... i have no idea how water could get in.

 

Forget the seals for a bit and check all the plugs and wire cover in the jam. Maybe one fell out. Or they forgot to put them back in when done spraying. I'll just go right now and check how many there is suppose to be on the truck. I have a access cab.

Really the only place water should be able to get in there is threw the door locking mechanism.

Forget the plugs there are no rubber plugs. Only where the wiring enters the door. My GM had about maybe five. Tacoma's don't have any. Wonder how they got the rust proofing in there then ?

Could be the angle of the truck when washed but I'd be checking into it because if that is not the case you will have major rust problems is short order. Water should not really be able to get in the door unless you drive threw creeks or have the window not tight up in the rain. If you open the window right up you should be able to see almost to the bottom of the door next to the glass and the seal. Water can definitely get in there that way. Honda has a recall on a few of theres cause the water is killing the electric window switches for instance.

 

its under warranty, so take it in and let them deal with it, plus this way it gets documented in the system as well.
