It doesn't look like it's supposed to rain so lets hope. Last time it rained at wendover the course got horrible and I got sick to my stomach while racing. I just want clear skies for the next two weeks.

20% chance of rain the next 2 nights. Didn't look too bad the last few days from what I saw. Maybe with the infamous Wendover wind, it'll dry out in a hurry.
Corey left for the pits 30 mins ago, so we'll get a WX report pretty soon.

Most of the BOR races are 2 part races so the UTVs/smaller class cars like @P.Blackley race in the AM, then there's about an hour for the course to clear at lunch, then the unlimited class big boys go play in the afternoon.

I think the first flag drops at 730am this race, and the 2nd race finish is Grand Prix style due to daylight, so the first truck to finish 5 laps sets the "last lap" so it's a guess to when they finish but I'd say around 7pm at the latest. Then after the race, everyone hangs out in the pit area and celebrates surviving another race.

If you wanted to join in, its almost required to arrive the night before to get the volunteer info and your staging point and generally make sure we are all on the same page. Especially since you'd be a walk in (which is a good thing!). The thing to consider is you may be put at a checkpoint which is a good ways from the pits, so it may take a little time to get to, although this course is pretty easy to get out on from what I have been told.

Noah is a solid dude. He's pretty busy with his day job at the moment, but he might make the time for you. Seems like CMCs and some other stuff are his ways of procrastinating. Last time I was at his shop, there was a railing he was making, then an LT tundra in pieces along the back and a tacoma going through a 63 spring swap. That's my kind of decorative metalwork shop!

Ok, I'll check with Noah from Reise Outfitters out. Anybody else that knows someone in the Salt Lake Valley that can do CMC and a pinch weld mold, just let me know.

Do the pinch weld yourself. Just get a BFH and start folding it in. Don't be afraid to hit it hard. Just take your time. Get the weld nice and flat and cover with primer and paint. Done.

Sorry I missed this. Friday was a blur with wrapping up at work and hitting the road. If you follow the bonneville offroad race series on facebook, you'll see any and all info as the races develop for next season.

Out in the Wendover desert, pulling recovery duty, watching some cool toys go by! Bum deal for @P.Blackley getting knocked out of another race, but I'm getting good at rescuing them by now

I would be interested in recoveries or even route planning in the future. I used to volunteer in the local races out at plaster city when I still lived in So. Cal.

Hey Gunshot-6A do you get paid to do recovery duties or is it volunteer work?

When I did this in So. Cal it was purely Volunteer. You might occasionally get free swag such as tee shirts/ stickers/ cuzies/ Meals. There is no money in offroad racing... lol. I am sure the Bonneville organization is the same.

When the series get started up next season, I'll throw some details to you. Most of the routes are pre-planned based on years of racing, and pretty heavily prescribed by BLM, so our "creativity" is pretty limited, but I'm sure the main staff would be glad for fresh faces to help with the work.

He got it right. Pure charity work. It's pretty fun to interact with the BOR community, watch race trucks, etc. Plus everyone I've met is super friendly, and outpour their thanks for volunteers any chance they get. Takes a village to put this type of stuff together and keep it going. So far, I've received total payment in form of a few beers, a hamburger, and a taco.

to quote something I heard at the last race: "Offroad racing will make you a millionaire...just start with 5 million"

Thanks for the info, but I think I will have to pass on the charity/volunteer work for now. I'm looking for a part time job that pays decent.

Yeah, BOR only does a few races a year anyway, so even if they did pay a stipend, you MIGHT break even on gas.
