    Agreed!
I’m on stock tune and flip flop from 87 to 93 in the humid south. This 3G is more enjoyable in cool weather on 93.
It will affect all engines but I don’t notice this as much in GM vehicles, and I drive a lot of them.
Toyota ECM tuning is behind the times, especially after hearing Matt’s explication of what sensors it is not utilizing.
I would really like to know the reasoning behind it..

Why repeal the gas tax? It’s supposed to fix the roads and bridges... just like the increase in the vehicle registration fees and the increase in bridge tolls and the previous gas tax and the one before that... oh, and the one before that....

Atmospheric pressure, Temperature, humidity, and elevation all affect air density which in turn affects the power the engine can produce.

I wonder if somehow this vehicle is super sensitive to these changes, moreso than a "normal" vehicle? Would explain why people feel it drives great one day but not the other lol

In my experience, I recently disconnected the battery to reset the tsb learning and I thought not much changed, until today when it suddenly got better, as good as it was after the initial flash.

The only difference I can think of is that the weather got about 15-20 degrees cooler than usual and when I had initially gotten the TSB, the weather was also not as hot for about a week which was full of rains and wind. Maybe that explains why I felt it got a bit crappier, it feels a bit degraded during hotter weather.

Personally, I clear DTCs only when the weather has a major change.

Here in south Louisiana, the weather recently had a big drop in temp. Tomorrow I’ll be resetting DTCs, airing up the tires, and rolling on.

I didn't read Mats post on that too carefully but sounds like Toyota opted to cut some corners and decided to use fewer sensors and presumably use more fixed maps. An interesting choice because even minor amounts of improper fueling affects emissions. Maybe our trucks pollute like crazy when it's extra cold or warm. I'm sure they don't want to be the next name that comes up in an emissions cheating scandal.

Will those who already have the tune and ordered a handheld but opted to not exchange have to wait or will those be sent out like a new customer?

So does this mean that with all previous versions of the tune, that we were never seeing Otto cycle engine operation in 6th gear? What will the maximum throttle angle change be in 5th gear?

How about on flat roads going against a strong head wind like that? If 1.05 can stay out of 4th gear at 75-80 mph, that would be great.

Tropical storm type winds saw me in 6th but it was coming at an angle from the front right. It did change to 5th to keep the speed but with that strength wind it doesn't surprise me!

    It's MUCH better than previous.

So, I found a way to put 50-100 miles on the truck yesterday after flashing the latest 1.04. As others have said, not mind blowing, but this is how the truck should have felt from the factory. I didn't notice a big difference in throttle response, but it definitely feels "lighter", performs better in low RPMs, and is smarter about when to shift. Also, it has been 10 degrees colder the past 2 days then when i was running the original tune.

On thing I've seen posted by OV is that these trucks have 2 overdrives. Does that mean that they are geared to only have 4 significant gears and the other 2 are overdrives? Basically a hacked 4 speed? Because that would make sense. This truck is so anxious to get to 5th and 6th. It's incredibly annoying. My daily trips have a max speed limit of 45 and a constant flow of hills. There's no reason to shift above 4th. However, anytime I lift my foot off the pedal on a level surface or down slope, it goes to 5th and 6th very quickly and cruises at around 1000 rpm. Is it supposed to do that for MPG? Am I just too used to driving MTs (i've driven MTs my whole life)? Should I be driving in "S" to avoid this, or is that a hack for a tune that still needs improvement (1.05)?

All-in-all, if you're buying a 3rd gen, add $770 to the price of the truck to get what you expect from the factory.

Good to hear. Any hints as to throttle response, like when you need to pass someone? does it hold a gear and scoot or does it downshift then scoot?

You control this, slowly press the gas and it'll accelerate in gear, give it a stab and it'll change down. Don't expect much acceleration in 5th or 6th, it'll hold the gears and let you increase speed on a highway easily but they aren't any good for overtaking, as they're overdrive. Just getting this out there.

    Yes. MPGs.

My commute is 40 mph on a flat road for about 11 miles. I get like 28 MPG thanks to this!!

We go up to Denver to see the Rockies fairly often (live in ABQ), and twice I've been passed on the freeway by some guy going 80+ on the shoulder! All my years living in California, I never experienced that. What's with those Denver drivers?
