Seems like lots of these kind of races would be boring to me in person. Only to see them fly by every so often. Drift event should be fun though. And I'm not a Nascar fan but I've been to 2 Nascar races at Fontana Speedway & it was fun as hell.

I watch the Robby Gordon stadium trucks on youtube sometimes.

I like watching drag racing, but I also like drag racing too. Ziptie drags this year is gonna be fun. My buddy is gonna race me in the Z with my Taco. I told him he can launch it as hard as he wants in 4wd. Then I plan to race silly drags here in Chandler, AZ too. Even have a costume picked out for that.

I used to love drag racing. It was in a Honda but bracket racing was fun as hell to me. Street racing too, yeah, yeah, I know, was in my younger days. I miss racing at tracks too, they closed most of them down but I'm out of that now. I've been watching a lot of drifting lately & Hoonigan. I still have the urge for a fast car.

Ziptie drags sounds like fun! I watch Roadkill & all the other shows all the time, I'm subscribed to MTOD.

The fast car urge never dies. I'm guilty of stoplight racing and pulls on the highway. Usually with other taco owners haha. But driving the cruiser keeps me from doing that too much.

Last year's Ziptie drags was great, camped next to the track and got to see the guys from roadkill. Everyone was digging the RTT. I'm all over the ugly truckling video in the background. Got to talk with Dulcich for a good little while too. Excited to actually race this year, even if I won't really be fast. Hoping to run a high 13 or low 14 with the NA Z. No idea what the Taco will run. I'll turn the boost and meth up and hope for the best.

I guess it never does. I thought I was good but the thought always comes back to me. If i didn't have to deal with CA smog & all the tickets I'd probably still be into it. I mean I can get around the smog but too much of a hassle.

Sounds.like you will have a blast this year. Dulcich is definitely a character. I trip out on his use of vocabulary. And the gestures he does with his hands kind of annoys me sometimes but still fun to watch all of them.

Yeah he's definitely a character. Super nice guy though and was the only one to hang out outside the security detail the rest of the roadkill guys have. Even still Freiburger and Finnigan will talk with you if they aren't filming bumpers for the episode so that's cool. Just gotta be there for the camping. During the day they're too slammed and during racing they're fixing their own junk.

Yeah they're pretty decent NA, I have an extra 20 HP coming just in tuning alone and another 15 from more tuning after opening up the exhaust. It comes pretty conservatively tuned from the factory cause frankly in 84 they just didn't have the tech to tune all the power into an EFI system yet. Also I'm pretty good at nailing the tree.

Ah plus I wasn't thinking that you had headwork done to it so I'm sure that frees up some. What are they stock weight/HP?

Stock 87 NA is 165hp with a pretty brutal torque curve, 3225 curb weight on a loaded model. It's that unrelenting torque curve that really helps them along. The turbo models stock made 205hp but until the turbo spools they were slower right off the line due to the 7.8:1 compression implemented to avoid knock (cause the EFI couldn't adapt well enough back then, nowadays you can actually get the stock ECU to read a more modern knock sensor to adjust so the compression lowering is practically unnecessary).

They're very fun. It's kinda funny cause if you take the turbo kit and ecu off a turbo model and slap it right on an NA, with no tuning it will lay down 218 hp and 244ftlb to the wheels but the stock turbo car will only put 168hp and 214hp to the wheels. You get more power just by starting with an NA car haha. And if you tune the ECU on the NA car you can completely get rid of the pinging and make up to about 320hp 400ftlb to the wheels before you run out of turbo and injectors. That's why I started with an NA this time. Less chance of the engine being hammered too from kids boosting the tits off em.

And the motor will still stay healthy at that level? That's a lot of power for not that much work. What about the rest of the drivetrain?

I've got a couple friends reliably laying down more than 500hp with this same car (1986 and 1988 models). The VG30E is happy to take boost all day, 13 head bolts and way over braced and girdled engine block is just built to boost. The trans in mine is the weak link. The turbo models got a beefier trans, but it's a direct swap for me and I can pull one out of Zs going up to 1998. But it shouldn't break until I hammer it over 400hp. The rest of the car handles power well and has lots of bracing structure.

    @E30325

I should mention my buddy's daily tune is over 550hp, his race tune pushes 650 and is soon to be going to 700 which is about the stock bottom end limit.

Here's his daily tune Dyno graph from a couple days ago. Wish I could post the video too.

Wow that's insane, that things gotta be scary to drive. I'd imagine too even at the upper limit for the trans unless you put some serious tires on it it will hold up okay

I've driven it quite a bit, at every little step along the way to getting where it is. It has always been fast, but the last time I was in it it was indeed scary fast. It can spin 13" wide Nitto NT05 in 3rd gear going 65 with just a bit of pedal input. His drag slicks are 14" wide and they hold it well but like any car it can get squirrelly making passes near the end. Such a fun car though
