let's be honest you know engine damage was reported there was obviously some major front-end repair work happening
Assuming odometer reads 35,000 as wasn't re-clocked, how do you know the (new motor I'm guessing?) is anywhere near that mileage. $16k for that seems steep. you can get a super CLEAN Tacoma for less without all the front-end repair work..

All I gotta say is that seller had better have a super legit story and have all the documents to back it up.. On the other hand the resale value is already way less.. If you're skeptical to buy it, what makes you think others won't be skeptical to buy it if you ever decide to sell?

22 years ago I bought my tacoma and never thought it would have lasted 575,000 miles in my wildest dreams.

No need to expect dust or cobwebs, a lot of times these trucks are found with low miles because they just simply aren't driven a lot or on long trips...it's someone's 3rd or 4th vehicle maybe that doesn't see a lot of driving but that doesn't mean they aren't taking it out for a few miles every week to keep things moving and the cobwebs off. Keep it parked in a garage and it'll stay looking new

I would pay the money to have someone real expert look it over before finally pulling the trigger. Test drive it taking it on a hwy to see how it handles at 60mph+

At 35,000 miles you only need an expert frame shop body shop to inspect
the front end. They know what to look for and what to measure if
something is out of wack from the accident before

Yea sounds like everyone is in agreement have a professional look it over before pulling the trigger. I mean $16k is a lot of dough! It sure is a beautiful truck. Let us know how the inspection goes

I love that green color my first vehicle '96 land cruiser was that green color, always been a fan

You seem a bit paranoid. I'm looking at buying the truck - promise that. I have a 2017 currently that I bought back in feb. I know a lot about 3rd gens, decent amount about 2nd gens, nothing about 1st's. From an average persons viewpoint, 16k seems crazy for a truck that is 16 years old.. however they seem to sell for that price in my area. Just trying to reach out to the TW community for some advice as to what I should be offering and whats overpriced.

Im trying to buy a house and need to get rid of my truck payment... hence looking at a 1st gen. As the guy above from denver said, they are in very high demand here, the only other ones I can find are 150k+, rebuilt titles, and still asking 13k

16k for a 1st, badly wreaked one at witch effect s its book value. Coming out of a 3rd from the lot unwreaked I am assuming is a very poor financial decision. Gullible decision for the least.

There are MANY vehicles out there that are much older, and go for a lot more than $16k. Hell, my brother paid like $18k for his poop colored 86 Westi with a bad subi motor and musty smelling brown interior.

While $16k does seem a tad high for an old(er) truck, you've really done your part to ensure it's a legit truck. Think about how long these these last, and you've got one that's practically brand new! These are trucks that are just getting broken in at 150k miles.

Sell your 3rd gen, get the best gen.

My '77 F-250's 100% original engine bay is squeaky clean. No oil, dust or cobwebs and only 90k miles so that obviously means that I'm hiding something, right?? The truck has been in my family since new, restored twice and I've babied the hell out of it since I got it from my dad.

I get what you're saying man, but lots of guys out there detail the shit out of their engine bays on a regular basis. I've always kept my engine bays as clean as possible, for several reasons, OCD being the main reason, but it also helps locating any leaks that might pop up. An engine bay caked in dust, grime and cobwebs would worry me more - shows that it wasn't taken care of very well.

yea well it's not whats on the outside but what's on the inside
looking for OEM is important to me when purchasing a new vehicle
some dust and cobwebs in the right places can be a great indication of authenticity.
    ask any classic car collector

EDIT: what percentage of the driving population cleans their engine bay with pressure washer on regular basis? Less than 1% maybe. Statistically speaking..
