depends on what you want out of it and how much you are willing to spend.

now i have something to look out for on the trails ;)

def wheels and tires are one of the largest benefits to a lighter in weight and lighter in "feel" bike.
rotating mass is a lot harder to control than just a mass moving forward.

you would be amazed at how much more "flickable" your bike becomes after replacing with a set of lightweight tires and tubes.

wheelset is a major contributor to weight on a pre-made bike (but a new wheelset can be big $$)

i had Mavic Cross rides on my previous ride. they weren't the lightest, but were lighter than the "stock" set and made a big difference in handling.

look at your cassette as well. if it is mostly solid on the back of the biggest sprocket, its got some weight to it.

just got finished with my second outing on the new bike (with many changes)

purchased the bike @ 30.2 lbs
with upgrades shown, down to "unofficially" (bathroom scales) about 26 lbs have to get it "officially" weighed at LBS

biggest savings coming from fork, wheelset, and tires.

came with Rock Shox TORA fork, Kenda Nevegal wire bead tires and Mavic/Shimano wheelset

    newSantaCruzcomponents-1_3e10c54c7c72dccdb7fca3f9405472cac3e673c7.jpg

this bike frikin' climbs and accelerates like a "bat outta hell"

    i love it!!

i found myself climbing in a gear or two higher than i used to.

Can an experienced MTBer give me direction on a good bike to pick up. Sold my Felt F55 to get into mountain biking (over road cycling ) . Was looking at the Felt line up, I like the Giants too but wanna stick with a Felt. Any input on their all-trail cycles?

Picked this up off Craigslist for $270, bike is perfect! Not a scratch on it. Not bad for a 2007 Raleigh Mojave 8.0.

Been a while since I rode, but come tomorrow I'm going to test my skills at a local park and see where I'm still at. So I'm going to jump right into the intermediate/expert trails and see what I can or can't break. :D I was pretty savvy as a kid, but I'm finding out I already don't get up quite as fast as I used to when I ran downhills in Tennessee/North Carolina/Georgia.

Here's my 07 Trek Fuel EX7... I love it! More than enough bike for me, mostly trail riding/cross country. Used to live right near the Rocky Mountains, this was the shit for me! Now moved to Ontario (east) and it's the shit here too! Only upgrades are lock-on grips and Hayes Stroker Trails... Bike doesn't need anything else for me!

Here's a couple pics of a rattle snake that struck at me as I went by him.
I never even saw it until it was too late and he was in mid air coming at my leg. He missed by a couple feet but it scared the Sh% out of me!
