I can think of several roads where that would be a blast to drive (under controlled conditions).

More than mine, that's for sure. What I really need is more clearance, but don't know when, or if, that'll ever happen.
Damned stinking rotten filthy bastards at the IRS are partly responsible. That and a new motorcycle.

Spent the weekend in Mammoth for our 32nd anniversary. Spent Saturday driving east to Benton and back on 120. Beautiful country. Had a great cheeseburger and fries at Benton station. Driving back from there across a high dessert plain of blooming sage, the road crested a bluff. I took the first turn off to a trail that took us to the edge of the bluff and awesome views of the white mountains. Perfect fall day on the east side.

That new snow looks good. I was up at Barcroft Research Station a couple weekends ago. There was no snow then. The views from up there are even better. You can see a huge span of the Eastern Sierra.

Speaking of which if you get a chance to go up Silver Canyon Road to White Mountain road and take a left go to Patriarch Grove and check out the Ancient Bristle Cone Pines.

If you want to you can hike to the top of White Mountain Peak at 14,246 feet. It's about 14 miles and 3600 feet of elevation gain. It's the easiest 14er in CA. I think it's the only one you can ride a bicycle to top as well. They open the road to Barcroft Station twice a year. This knocks off about 3 miles round trip and a few hundred feet of elevation gain.
