Greatly improved performance and MPG after the update. One month and 1,200 miles after ECU update, I think it is getting even better. The "learning" works for me!

As as been said, once your flashed, the computer has been reprogrammed, that doesn't go away. What does go away is the learned behavior of the tranny.

My 2018 is overall ok but it does some weird stuff sometimes- hard shifts, weird shifts, etc. It's just enough where I notice but right below where it annoys me. It's tolerable. I do drive a few thousand foot elevation change everyday over hills and mountains in SOCAL, so I'll probably move forward with the TSB tomorrow. I'm guessing it is subtle and the right thing to do, but Toyota doesn't want their dealership clogged with Tacomas so they are just trying to hit only the most displeased customers.

I may give it a shot and then drive the heck out of it for a couple of months.

Can any Canadians let me know if the calibration ID is the same for the US and Canadian models?

Did a check last night with and ODB2 reader and CarScanner app and have the following (which i assume is the previous ones)

    calID.jpg

Just want to know what to expect if I can get a dealer to do the update for me to verify it.

I had the stumble with mine and had the TSB applied. It has done nothing. If anything it is worse, well not exactly worse as much as different. At 45mph or so I would get a slow stumble, now the stumble is more frequent, but less intense.

The TSB wasn't intended to address THAT stumble, just the hesitation when accelerating hard from stopped or slow speeds. If you want to get rid of the stumble you are describing, use the highest octane gas sold in your area.

After some digging looks like I want 8966304A6100 to be current with a 2018.

Anyone know of a Canadian TSB I can reference to get this? The download of T-TCI-5133 only covers 2016-2017 model years.

It is the same calibration file for both T-SB-0058-18 and T-SB-0062-18. Octane isn't the issue.

Relearning due to your girly man driving style? Man up! Move the seat up if your foot doesn't reach the firewall. Real men use the pedals as on and off switches. Screwx hyper mileing. Report back with your best hypo mileing results. Dwarfs and girly men need not reply.

Just got 30K service on my 17 TRD OR. I asked if there was a TSB update and they checked and did install a new one. So, that is two reflash updates for me. Neither of the updates are listed on service paperwork. So , I don't know what number it is and neither did Joe, "please score me 10", the service person. Anyway, within minutes of driving in a 45 zone with traffic she still loves to get right up into 5th gear as fast as she can and then bog when I need to pick up and join traffic flow. I'm going 35 mph in 5th gear, step on it a bit to join flow, and she bogs. It's almost unsafe because you either get someone right up your arz or you gotta give enough love to the pedal to jump on the car in front of you. Look, ain't no TSB fixing shit. It runs how it was designed, to get good gas mileage and look pretty. I'm beginning to realize that Toyota can't afford to fix this problem and most likely an aftermarket product is the answer. Shift Sense, Sprint booster, OVtune, re gear, trade, keep driving my first Gen. Money wise I need to keep as it will be paid off nest year.

Yeah after about 2500 miles, mine is right back to acting like it was pre-tsb. I'm getting the dead pedal feel every time I accelerate up to 35mph. And the constant shifting and gear hunting is back too.

So you have no clue if they actually did it??
Anyways my experience is the total opposite. Mine is fun to drive now. I drive my Audi sq5 less and less

So I just got my tacoma a month ago and have been noticing that when it downshifts due to letting go of gas pedal it will stutter a bit (feel my body go back and forth slightly) and not so smooth. Not always but sometimes. Is this the "stumble condition"

Well, they said they did it, but I see no difference and it wasn't on the paperwork. Dealer always speaks the truth right..... Glad your truck is driving better. I guess I'm just First Gen spoiled tranny wise.

Someone correct me if needed but I thought the Stumble was a high altitude thing. However, anytime you try and jump out of a lane to pass she will stumble, not hotdogging it either, just a basic slip into a lane to get around someone you have been stuck behind waiting for a chance to get over.

If it’s not on the toyota paperwork. They didn’t do it.

Found TSB paperwork from the first one I got done at about 10K in Alabama. Nothing on paperwork from today, I agree, didn't happen. Also, they said there are no grease fittings on U-joints. I have one up front(bone dry) but all the other ones seem to be sealed. So, they are not aware of this or what. I have read threads on this so I don't wanna open that can, just goes to show ya what these dealers (not all) are pulling. I gotta say, this site has really been a huge help. And, yeah, this fitting has never been touched, not even factory. I still find this hard to believe.
