Nah if you already have a security system and they aren't charging you extra, that's definitely the way to go.

My main problem with most security cameras is they're designed to only work with their cloud services so you have to pay them monthly as well as pay for the camera.

when buying a cell phone do you pay the full 9 or 10 percent sales tax plus a new device activation fee?

My complaint would be more like buying a cell phone then having to pay a monthly fee for cell service. The difference would be that the phone wasn't designed to rely on cell service when it didn't need to be. If a cell phone could operate without the cell network, I'd have a problem with being required to pay for and use the network.

wait, i'm just trying to find out how much phones cost today.

do you play xbox or playstation because you buy the system that will work without any connection, but it's much better with one such as psn or xbox live.
same thing with a phone you can buy one and not have connection, but it's much better with one.
when i bought my orbi router i still have to pay spectrum for internet
i bought my tacoma and still have to pay for the fuel

i'm kidding, but seriously what's sales tax on phones in alabama

Oh haha, sorry about that. Totally just dragged you into my own little discussion there.

But no, I don't play xbox or playstation for that very reason :) I pay my ISP for the connection, and Steam lets me connect with friends for free, and the games let me play online using each games (or mine if I host) own servers for free, all because I bought the game! I don't play any subscription based games either.

Paying for fuel is different- that's like complaining about having to pay for maintenance. What if Toyota made you pay monthly to be able to use the screen in the middle?

Always complain about the activation fee. You already have one activated so you shouldn't have to pay a fee. My dad always does it and they always end up waiving that fee.

Activation fees are still a thing? Like just swap them sim card and turn it on...? I did have to get a new SIM card last time cuz my old phone had a different style SIM but when I ran over my last phine with the lawn mower I bought one on eBay and just swapped stuff myself. Just make sure its the same network phone if you don't buy it from a carrier

This, and for android there's an app called smart switch to move everything over that the sim card and backups doesn't transfer (if the old phone still works), so don't let them try to claim that's what the fee is for either.

funny thing is verizon's policy is if you buy the phone from them you pay activation, i believe all carriers do this.

If you buy the phone directly from apple then go into a providers store since you brought your own device they waive the fee.

ultimately if everyone does this you have to pay it, what are you gonna do use cricket or metro lol.

Sounds like it's just a hidden cost to make their phone prices seem competitive. Bet if you factor in that fee, you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
