Zr2 vs TRD Pro

has any TRD Pro owner been
Out on the trails with the zr2 to see how they compare in the real world? Can the TRD Pro hang even without the front locker?

For the majority of people, a front locker is really good for standing in front of the truck next to someone else saying "it's got a front locker". Other than that, it probably gets no use.

 

The same thing can be said about a rear locker, or hell 4lo... doesn't make them less valuable.

 

The Pro needs better tires from the Factory

 

It would be used less than both of those, so there is that.

 

I've used the rear locker only a handful of times in the past years. I think all were in Moab. So I'll give you the rear locker, even though there is probably a 20:1 usage ratio compared to a front locker. But 4Lo? Farrrrr more usage than a front locker. Far more. Like Crawl Control, most owners will use it once. To test it out.

Give me a winch before a front locker.

 

My argument was the people using 4lo in any 4x4 is a tiny percentage of the people that buy them. But TRD Pros and Jeep Rubicons with WAY more capability than just 4lo are still very popular sellers because of the perceived ability to hit harder trails. That's why saying a front locker doesn't matter is kinda a weird argument; for the majority of 4x4 buyers, none of it REALLY is necessary, but it's all cool points.

And I've used my front locker way more times than my winch, but I don't want to give up either

 

A $45k+ midsize truck that doesnt have basics like LED headlights and Push-To-Start is crazy to me. Obviously these dont mean much in terms of off roading, but for the price and trim of a ZR2 I feel like it should be standard.

 

I agree. I think the Tacoma in general could use some good AT tires. Im not a fan of the tires on my off road. Maybe some KM3s wouldve been nice too lol

 

At least our airbags dont randomly deploy while out on a trail

 

Zr2? I'm pretty sure they stole the design blueprints for the Honda Ridgeline

 

Some argue that halogen has still yet to be beat in terms of usable light per lumen. It does have projectors, and i personally don't like push to start ignitions.

I took a Zr2 for a test drive last year. I found nothing offensive about it. Right after I took a Tacoma Sport out with a manual. That Tacoma had some serious issues and would say the Zr2 one the match that day.
The only negative about the Chevy is the horrible resale value. Better stock tires and that really cool front diff. I could have been tellin some real good stories in the mall parking lot!

 

The main issue with Chevrolet or GM in general is all of their vehicles have built in problems right from the factory!

 

My wife has a rav4 with factory LEDs. It blows away any vehicle I've ever been in with halogen's by a mile. The first time I drove it at night I couldn't believe how far down the road street signs lit up. It's definitely the future.

 

The resale value is why I plan on going with the TRD Pro. After 5 years it is projected to hold 60% of original value. Colorado is projected at 47.5% over same period. This is a pretty sizeable difference. I will say that if the Colorado’s prove to be super reliable that they are going to catch the TRD Pro. I have driven both and if one was blindfolded I believe they would say the Colorado is a much better daily driver. The 8 speed and multimatic shock setup is amazing.

 

Do yourself a favor and get in a 5 year old Colorado and a 5 year old Tacoma. My family always buys Chevy's, they're so nice when the get them. A few years goes by, they're uncomfortable and everything is loose. Last year I was still driving my 05 Tacoma and rode in my brothers 13 Yukon Denali, it felt so much older than my truck.

 

Considering how long the Colorado’s have been in production, if they were going to catch the Tacoma, it would’ve happened by now. The only contender to the Taco has been the Ranger. All other midsize trucks are fighting for (a distant) 3rd.
