Tempting to pull the trigger on the handheld device but it'd be purely a matter of convenience since I have a laptop for flashing already. I suppose the main motivator is really just that the laptop I'm currently using for flashing is old and slowly dying and takes forever to figure out its life...but it works. Lol

I’m probably going to get it because windows is trash and I’m surprised it hasn’t blown up my install yet. I really hate windows 10.

Plus I can keep this in my truck all the time. I don’t always have my laptop but always have my dongle.

my laptop is held together with duct tape. actually duct tape, no exaggeration. so it's committed for the truck.

in other words i need a new laptop, save money for that, not for a handheld.

Went ahead and pre-ordered the handheld. I expect my laptop to die on me somewhat soon, so yeah

I'm kinda surprised that this 'handheld' concept hasn't been tackled yet. Everyone on here like has one already, smartphone. The phone in your hand is quite likely more powerful than the old laptops some are using...or if one wanted to be really creative, a raspberry pi box with a mod to throw the screen to the head unit.

    And, I'm high!

I’ve got windows 10 only because boot camp on Mac requires it these days. All my VMs I still run windows 7 because stuff actually works. Every time I goto 10, I end up fighting something stupid. You get it working only to break on the next update.

I dunno.. On the one hand I don't really need the handheld.
But, it sure would be handy if one had to flash an 87 tune if a mistake was made at the pumps (or proper gas wasn't avail on a road trip). No more lugging the laptop around.

Forgive my ignorance, but do these devices have their own rechargeable battery packs - or are they powered via the OBD port (or both)? I seem to recall the Tactrix interface lights up as soon as you plug it in to the truck (without key in ignition IIRC).

I'm going to assume that they're powered via OBD, but I can't say for sure. If it has a rechargeable battery of its own instead, it wouldn't be a hassle to just charge as needed

I was initially thinking I would pass up on the handheld but since my laptop is on its last legs, it seems like this is an excellent investment alternative to go forward with, not to mention more easily stored. And the ability to monitor live data will be a nice option for those who go twin turbo, which I intend to eventually do (can't do it right at initial release, but it's on the list)

Only a 20 mile test drive but what a difference in pedal feel, night and day and I have a heavy
truck ... FourWheelCamper (fully loaded),2.5" lift 2xtra leafs, metal ft bumper w/winch, rock sliders, 285 75 16, TRD
Pro rims,TRD CAI and Cat Bk....... so any improvement is easily noticed!
Doesn't quite have the power of Matt's magic tuning and can't wait for 1.05 around the corner!
    :burnrubber:

footnote: Toyota Corporate what the hell where you thinking and why disregard MT owners.....gees

oh and :brianr: to the two dealerships that refused to flash me and improve their product for witch they stand for!

Yeah it’s unbelievable what this truck is capable of and how badly Toyota f’d it up (this coming from a guy who suffered through the disaster that is the auto transmission for over a year). I don’t even bother trying to get a dealer to do anything these days. It’s less effort for me to just figure out how to do it myself and my warranty is already long gone at this point

I'm amazed at the secrecy on the M/T side this time around. At least the slushbox guys are getting some tidbits. It isn't much mind you, but anything is better than silence at this point lol.
