Yup me too! They all turned into Popeye's. But there are actually 2 locations left here in LA somewhere. I've been meaning to go to one of them, not sure if they're the same recipe as back then though.

I bought an Alpine IVE-W530 a few years ago for around $400. Bluetooth worked great (No Nav tho) the model is discountinued now, but i'm sure there's an updated model for the same price range... always loved Alpines. But i'm soon to be in the market for a new double-din head unit with Apple Carplay and option for rear view camera input. hmm?

I bought this last year.. I like it.. I’m a big fan Of trying to keep it as stock as possible on aftermarket stereos and this one isn’t flashy like a lot of them out there.

I currently have the Jensen VX7024 double DIN receiver with Bluetooth/navigation/DVD/CD/Pandora/USB/Apple Play/backup camera. After using the OEM cassette/radio head, a cassette adapter with a 3.5mm jack and a separate Garmin GPS unit for a long time, it's nice to have all of the features integrated into one device. The cons is the factory dash has the head unit under the climate controls compared to the 2nd or 3rd generation trucks. I paid over $300 from Crutchfield catalog and paid for the installation, but am happy with the audio/media entertainment head unit in my truck. My truck is in the 21st century! Now for some new speakers and a subwoofer.

I bought a Pioneer single DIN with no CD support for ~100 a few years ago. It's been great, has better Bluetooth support than my Mercedes :p

In my experiences, the cheaper touchscreen double dins are junk. Seen a few go out right after the warranty go up.... I have the Kenwood DPX502BT and it is fine other than the volume adjustment sucks... I think any double din though you can use the factory radio mounts and just put it in like that. You don't have to buy those cheesy plastic trim rings and mounts.
