    Hello everyone,
I am pretty much a newbie on this forum, So bare with me while!!! I have been reading for weeks now about all kinds of information so I can make an informative buy for my future Toyota.

So I have been looking into buying a double cab 4x4. I am still debating over the Long Bed and the Short Bed, I plan on keeping the car for years so I would think the long bed would be the wiser choice. (I will be going to the dealer for the 3rd time to get the driving feel for the LB, since I drove the SB twice). I like both BEDS, and the less space it takes for the SB to park and move ability but the proportion of the LB looks better in my opinion.

Anyways that's more of the personal issue, my technical issue was regarding the truck and the TRD Packages. I myself like the better seats in the TRD then the SR5 so I am going for the TRD.

but here is the kicker... I plan on upgrading the truck with at least the typical 3" lift. The only thing I am unsure about is if i'm wasting more money on the TRD Suspensions:

Like for the Sport: Sport suspension with Bilstein® shocks, 17-in. alloy wheels with P265/65R17 tires

for 500$ more I get the OR: Off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein® shocks, locking rear differential, 16-in. alloy wheels with P265/70R16 BFGoodrich® Rugged Trail T/A tires

I'm really confused because if I plan on getting a lift will the Bilstein Shocks go to waste with the typical OME lift /AAL?? At one point I wanted to just let the dealership do the lift, but after a few reads about outrages chargers the dealership did I wouldn't like to have a bad toyo exp. I was also thinking that if the brand new suspension would go to waste with the TRD pack, then I would just go with the SR5, but I really liked them comfy seats. anyways I feel like I'm rambling, and I just need some help:confused:

So any input on this matter is appreciated.
    thanks in advance.
also I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

the TRD packages come with more than comfy seats. there are some obvious appearance differences as well. i agree with your thought that the TRD suspension is pretty much pointless if your just going to upgrade your suspension. also, keep in mind that the TRD OR is NOT available in long bed.

One thing I looked into, no wonder I got an error a while ago because it showed the TRD OR LB. I Joygasm'd.

I see it doesn't show up now.. maybe an error on toyota's website. One thing I do not mind about the SB "look" is when People Lift the truck then the Short Bed does not look so weird... I know maybe it's just me, but I still wonder if the bilstein shocks they install can be used with in the lift...

at one point on the toyota website it showed the nice seats but it might of been the interior color option because I am looking for the truck color in magnetic grey.

The TRD OR only comes in the double cab short bed config.

the TRD shocks can still be used depending on what type lift, but i thought you said you were going to use an OME lift? i just figured you meant replacing all your shocks with OME as well...

The SB would still look good Lifted, because I like the TRD Seats :) and the extra stuff isn't bad either, but one thing I wonder if it comes with the Belstein Shocks, can that be incorporated with a lift system?
and if so whats a good lay out?

I have been reading toku58's post on lifting and a few others to try and get an idea whats needed.

I wouldn't recommend using the stock shocks with a lift. I would go with an adjustable shock upgrade when you do the lift. Also, what will you be doing with the truck? Off-roading or highway queen? Plus if you get a TRD package, you can keep the OEM parts and swap them back out if you end up trading it in down the road because, most dealerships won't give you much if any extra for your add ons, or you can sell them once you complete your build.

I hear from a lot of you guys on this f0rum that its recommended. so it wont be such a stiff ride.. Now if theres other options I am good for that too. I'm just not sure if theBilstien 5100's that toku58's "lifting your truck" post is the same kinda bilstien shocks we get in the TRD Pack.

@Ahshiet: I really don't like the scoop, i would trade that if I could on the truck

nope the 5100s are not a stock shock. they are aftermarket.

For work and back of course, for recreational type use I would be using it to go to the beach, I would love to do some trail riding for fun. especially since Southern Cali is so close to Baja Cali.

The Long Bed sounds best to pack up some bikes, camping supplies, and also when we need to move big furniture (I had to borrow trucks to move furniture and bird cages, and recycling cans).

I recently saw a 3" lift on a truck at the dealership but it was in white, so i didn't even bother.

EDIT: btw the dealership also charges 3,000 dollars for a lift, WTF?

I have a DC LB and I never really considered the short bed. I use the long bed a lot and I've never regretted it. The only real negative is some parking spaces are a little more difficult due to the over all length but it's not enough to bother me much. I'd buy the same truck again tomorrow.

Maybe I can help. I just got the SR5 DC 4x4. The seats I hate, but seat covers are not that expensive. Yea the new TRD is nice with the locker and ATRAC but my 4x4 with the yellow wire mod can go through almost as much. Here is my take buy the Off-Road if you need serious off road power. Buy the SR5 if you wnat to save your money, replace the suspension and buy some seat covers later down the road

Yea I would never buy a lift from the stealership. lol. So its basically between the SR5 and the TRD sport because like its been stated before the Off Road doesn't come in a LB. I guess its up to you if you want to pay the extra for the nicer interior and painted bumper, grill, and hood scoop. If your wanting a complete 3" lift OME and Toytec make good cost efficient lift kits that are around $1,000.

    Just the basics
Really depends on what you need the LB for and what you plan to use your truck for. When I was shopping for a truck the DC LB was out of the question as a friend at work has one and for me it was just too long. Now that I am finding that what I am building for is an expo rig with a roof top tent the DC SB would have worked fine. I'm good with my access cab though. If you have to have the DC LB then get the sport since there is no off-road option. Do your comparisons of what you will use it for and contrast the SR5/Sport/OR options. If you think you will use all the OR bells and whistles it may put the LB out of the running. I will say that my friends sport DC SB rides more firmly than my OR. Same wheelbase but differently tuned suspension.

Good luck and make sure you post up pics!

I have a 2010 Mag Gray DC SB 4x4 Off Road. You will dump the suspension but the TRAC/ATRAC and locker is why you get the OR... not the shocks. Get the tow package... it adds oil and tranny coolers and you cant get those as seperate options.

I HIGHLY reccomend the truck. Mine was 29,500 with every option but the JBL system. I am gutting the stereo and doing a totally new system and putting about $4000 into the stereo.

Who cares if you will not use the stock shocks? You wont be using the stock upper control arms, stock springs etc. if you get a decent lift... you could use coil spacers and blocks if you want to keep the factory shocks and springs... and that would be the worst possible lift.

Yuo wont keep the factory floor mats... you wont keep the factory mud flaps... you wont keep the factory tires and rims. It goes on and on... accept it.

are you saying the seats are just a cover? i thought they were a bit more comfy especially for my big as5 and will be needing since i am a big guy (6feet 5inches).

I really don't care for the TRD, it would be nice to use once I get into the trail riding since I always wanted to do that but cant with a little car. The Bed of any truck would provide more space then my current hatchback.

I think I would do the lift down the line. I'm just debating if the seats are really worth it because if I do the lift then the TRD Suspension will go to waste..., but those seats feel nice, I'm going to have to sit in the sr5 and trd's again (here comes the 3rd visit to the dealership)

I don't really mind the price of the TRD, because I will work hard to pay for it, and I consider it an investment and I plan to keep this truck for decades.

one thing i was looking into if I did do the lift, it would be a good idea to have the track/atrac for off-roading trail riding... I assume it would be more expensive to try and get that later if its not in the truck already.

the DC SB lifted look is sweet, but I still think later down the road I would like the long bed for space. moving, furniture. etc... also the LB looks good lifted :p BTW I hate the Scoop on the Sport.

Also some one mentioned the lift kit with suspension and everything is about 1,000? that's not including labor..... sounds a lot better deal then what the dealership was saying.
