Axle wrap is an issue with stock power. I'll be curious to see what is necessary to keep the rear end under the thing with significant boost. Just a track bar or more?

A centrifugal setup on this truck would be easy, simple, but wouldn't get people what they want. Low end torque.
There is nothing out there, no supercharger I have ever seen that can create as much low end torque as quickly as boost from a turbocharger.
This is why nearly every OEM on the planet that has a forced induction engine uses turbos.

Driving this truck around town, highway and offroad has shown me that having full boost at 5000,6000 rpm would be totally and absolutely POINTLESS

    3.5 Ecoboost,
    1.5 ecoboost
    1.6 ecoboost
    2.0 ecoboost
    2.3 ecoboost
    2.0 2ARFTS
    V35A-FTS

etc etc etc etc etc. All of these engines use fast spooling small turbos with high pressure and create immediate and usable torque.

Turbos been on hold till 1.05 is done or you still waiting on those castings? Any idea when you'll have any good ballpark numbers on the kits?

He was. He removed the turbos to finish 1.05 development.

that's awesome news, because if he can switch his truck back and forth easily it means others with mechanical knowledge will be able to go back stock easily too!

True. He did mention before (months ago now i think) that the install should be pretty simple for relatively mechanically inclined customers. So I gather that if you know your way around a tool set and can follow directions, you should be relatively good to go.

Pistons get holed from detonation caused by bad tuning, not from higher power. Our bottom end is forged so that's also less of a concern.

I like the idea of a small turbo with no lag and not enough boost to worry about the engine blowing up. I don't want a huge turbo with tons of boost and lag. A more linear power curve without getting hit in the face when the turbo kicks in would be better for a daily driver, IMO.

Problem with Turbos is you don’t want a turbo that is too small

Nor too big! I'm saying that for a daily driver that I'd like to drive for 500k miles, I'd like it to be on the small side. My vote is for less boast, less lag and better reliability and daily driver experience.

I'd be good with the engine lasting 300k boosted. Because by 300k i've saved up enough to pay cash for the next ride and or replace engine with a new one.

Truck probably be totaled before 300k

@OVTune Your turbo system will come with exhaust piping up though to replace the Y-pipe to the motor correct?

Looking into exhaust but I don’t want to pay twice.

You don't have to sacrifice boost pressure with smaller turbo's it just falls off in the high RPM range. Smaller turbo's would be ideal if we can get full boost by say 3-3.5k. I would personally like it more around 2-2.5k since I have an auto since that is where my RPM usually sits at driving around if not less.

I don't remember where the thread is but someone else is making an exhaust system for this set up and is playing around with true dual and single exhaust systems. I hope they have a V-Band clamp option with all the piping though. Maybe not the charge piping but definitely with the exhaust manifold to turbo and down pipe. I absolutely hate dealing with gaskets and bolts associated with the turbo.

We will have full boost somewhere around 2500 or earlier according to Mat. He's not using giant turbos. Not seeing full boost til 3-3500 rpm on a 6 cyl would indicate a large turbo and that's not the plan, not for the lower tier kit(s) anyhow
