I plan to get the ARB bumper bumper like yours, too. Not the best looking, IMO, but for the safety, and the reasonable price I think it's the way to go.

I actually prefer the look of the ARB over the more brotastic options.

What winch do you have in there? When it comes time to get a bumper I'm making the winch purchase at same time. Don't wanna deal with taking bumper off to put a winch in later.

Well, on the upside at least you have a job! lol I've been researching armor, to me vehicle protection is way more important than looks. Animal strike is why I'm driving this damn 18' around instead of my beloved 08' MT :pout: I've looked a bit at CBI stuff, but frankly all the choices are overwhelming for someone who has no experience or brand loyalty/preference in this area. Anyone have any advice? I'm also trying to keep the weight down, with the Habitat and all the other goodies I want, I see my gas mileage taking a huge hit...

Sorry to hear about your 08'. That sorta thing is why I want a bumper. Specially if I'm a long way from home when something happened. The reason I want to get an ARB is because it's actually supposed to be rated to work with the trucks airbags, and crush zones and whatnot. I don't remember the specifics, but if it's gonna be safer for the wife and I, it's an easy choice. Not too pricey either, and it comes painted.

For a rear bumper, I really like Brute Force Fab, but CBI and others all have good looking stuff. If you've got a reputable brand located near you, that might be who to go with. Shipping is EXPENSIVE!

Yeah, I just want the armor to protect the vehicle. Really second guessing myself on letting the insurance company keep the old rig, but the body shop I took it to said the transfer case locked up and the frame got bent. Which is surprising, because I was able to react enough so that it was a glancing blow to the ass end of the cow instead of a direct broadside. Truck started right up no problem, and the cow walked away, but still did some serious damage. Guy at the body shop didn't really like the idea of armor though, he said it causes increased wear on components due to weight and the vehicles not being designed for it, and that you're more likely to screw up your frame with armor on since that's where it's attached. I also worry about the gas mileage hit, but it might be worth it to prevent a repeat of this...

*sigh* Yep, it appeared to be 'udderly' ok after the wreck. Due to "open range" laws here, it's a good thing too. People I've talked to said you're on the hook for anywhere between $2,000-$6,000 if you kill a rancher's cow, even if it's on a paved road. They're not liable for your vehicle whatsoever. To top it off, not even 10 minutes after my accident, oncoming traffic hit another cow maybe 100yds from me and killed that one. Both the cops that responded to the accident and a different guy who lives there that I consider a pretty trustworthy source said that those people's cows get hit in that exact spot all the time, at least one a year if not several. They just drag them off into the woods and use them for bait for bears and such. Seems kinda fishy to me, especially with them raising almost exclusively black cows, but they just keep getting paid

Black to dark brown cows raised in the US are typically Angus, and command a premium on the beef market.

The fence laws are funny, but it’s absolutely true.

In range areas, agriculture is fenced, and one should watch for cattle in roadways.

All true. And granted I have an axe to grind now, but I still think that if you insist on letting your black cows wander around on pavement at night, and you lose at least 1 a year in a particular spot to vehicle collisions, at least throw a splash of reflective paint or a reflective collar on the damn things.
