Seems like a rattle in there.

How do I remove that piece and plan to put some padding or tighten up the wiring in there.

    Does it just pop off?

Pull hard with your hands from the front edge first, then the back. The entire console snaps out, but be careful not to jerk it when it lets go. Push to snap back in.

Sounds like the only cure is to upgrade to MesoJDM’s map lights to fix it :D

Serious question... Do you keep sunglasses up there? I had a rattle and it turned out to be my sunglasses bouncing around if they weren't positioned "just right".

Mine rattled some. I put a small, folded piece of business card on the edge until my next dealer visit.

I was going to diagnose mine, took it to dealer and they just replaced the whole unit. No problems for last 2 plus years.

Bunch of this will fix it, no roof sounds either!:bananadance:

Actually, Toyota used a type of hot glue to stick wires onto the back of the headliner, if you can find the noisey cables, maybe a small line or dab of hot glue or silicone sealant put over the loose part of the wire bundle to just hold it down may help. I used craft hot glue to hold down a power line up there, works great.

Fixed rattle in overhead light, also rattle in dash which turned out to be the cover for the cabin air filter in the glovebox. Truck is quiet as a cucumber now!

I can't figure out if mine is from the map lights or the rear view mirror.

Did any of y'all ever get a solution to this? My new 2018 is doing it. Seems to be coming from the forward right side of the overhead console. If I wedge my finger (or something else) between the plastic of the console and the headliner, it seems to stop. Was going to have it checked on at my 5K service in a couple months, but curious if it was something easy.

I found my rattle noise yesterday after 2 years of driving. Pulled down the roof console that houses the sunglasses and houses the front dome lights. Found a metal retainer that goes around both sides and the front towards the windshield. On the passenger side the original “adhesive” from the factory was undone. Took a tube of E 6000 Transparent Glue (from Michaels Crafts, Home Depot, Lowe’s). Applied to metal braket., used spring clamps to hold in place against the headliner. I let it dry...set-up for two hours. Drove my truck around and over some rough roads.....noise was gone! Reinstalled the roof console. NO MORE NOISE of a rattle.
