I'm waiting for the last part of my KBV rack shipment to come in. Giving some serious thought to the cargo drawer with the pull out option.

I was pretty much already sold on the Alumax over a diamondback after debating other options, but after seeing how your bed setup has turned out I'm definitely going this route and now I have to add the sliding rack as well. Like you, I wanted a setup that could easily be removed or bolted on as needed. Very helpful to actually see what I was trying to envision, especially not even having my truck yet.

Hands down I would do it. I have the tall rack as my ikamper is in the mail, so I needed the clearance over the cab. But the tall rack affords a ton of room for the cargo drawer

I used to always prefer a 10" rack, but lately I really really like the extra clearance under a taller rack. I ran the 18" rack most of the summer, now the 14" rack is on our Tundra.

Glad the build thread helps. I did the same thing, researched for 6 months before I bought my truck. The AluMax wasn’t around yet when I got my truck and used the hi-rise bars over my diamondback cover, but this set up is far better. And yeah 4 bolts to transform the truck! If I had a better garage situation with enough vertical clearance I would buy a winch system for the rack and tent, but for now the tie down hoist works great.

I like the form and function of the tall rack with double side boards on the tall rack as well. Gives more strength and options. It was worth the little extra cost

That's essentially why I went with the 18" rack. I wanted to have clearance above the bed for cargo, and the rack would work just about perfectly for keeping the top level organized while the rack height will still let me get some larger/bulkier objects in the basket. I really like the lockers in there.

Your build is inspirational. I also have a DiamondBack and your setup is so well thought out. Thank you for sharing!

Would you mind posting a picture, when you get a chance, on how you bolted in the tonneau bracket in the rear? I'm assuming you used the t-nut for the front, but not sure how you bolted in the back since you got the bed rack for the long bed.

I used the rear most OEM bolt, not far from the tail gate. Can’t miss it, it’s inline with the bed rail. But do yourself a favor and go out and get 2 stainless steel bolts that are 1.5” as I snapped one off. Had to dig out my reverse screw bit to get it. PITA
    OEM screw is weak

That was awesome. Great build. You’ve given me a lot of inspiration and ideas there.
And I completely get the research thing. My truck is known as the Side Chick because I’m still constantly crawling through TW and YouTube. And Amazon.

This build is so excellent. I'm wondering if OP or KB Voodoo could clear up 2 questions of mine...

OP - I'm assuming you only had to relocate the lock on the front panel of the Diamondback cover because you put the *long* Alumax rack on your DCSB right? (wondering if the shorter Alumax will fit on top without having to relocate the front panel lock)

Also, I'm wondering what is(are) the main difference(s) between the KB Voodoo "Premium bed rack" and the Max Modular Alumax?

Max Modular is a culmination of everything that we've learned about bed racks over the past few years.

We incorporated all the things that people had asked for into the design for super easy integration of accessories.

It is also strengthened in literally every way.

Until I felt it I didn’t realize how much better it is than the previous generations. So good.

Thanks! I had to relocate the lock because I have a cargo tray, and the support for it lays right where the lock is on the cover. If you don’t have a cargo tray, which I say it’s totally worth the cost, then you won’t have a conflict. The short rack I’m sure could slide forward or aft to accommodate the lock if you have a cargo tray.
