Pretty much the direction I'm planning to go.

Something I think about once in a while..

 

Sunrise this morning in Tappahannock. Pulled the boat home, great trip with my Dad.

 

Almost as bad but way more self participation.

I slid the windshield on the ex up the track because I had people in my operating perimeter. When I went to lock it up the first time, the right side didn't lock. So I unlocked the left side and pushed it up harder. Somewhere in the operation my right hand slipped off the grip and, just as the shield was going up my finger got caught in the latch and actually jammed between the frame pin and the latch lock....for those that can't picture it, it would be like sticking your index finger in the door latch of your vehicle and slamming the door....shit happens.

Door Ding helped push me over the edge, finally got the Garmin inreach mini. Peace of mind is worth it. Had to set it outside to activate it, but it found a sat pretty quickly.



Only did the emergency plan not into showing the world where I am all the time on some social media thing. Or letting anyone else know where my hunting hotspots are.

 

I've kicked it around for a few years. I don't want a bunch of trailers and registrations. I have a motorcycle trailer I built but I'd have to modify it. It sits low for easy loading so thinking rebuild the axle and add airbags. That way I can lower it to load a bike and have the ability to raise it up for ground clearance. Right now it's an asphalt only trailer.

 

Mine has a drop down rear gate.
So a rear door entrance and put the gate down level.
Add a block for a step.
And instant rear porch...

 

The simplicity is what I like. Almost no set up time. But I know if I don't get a small Honda generator and an ac, it'll really limit my use to only about 3 months here. If I live to retirement, I'd really like to get out more than that. And I'll usually be close enough that if the wife wants to come out she could be there in about 45 minutes. Even though it'll probably cost me an annual permit (currently $75), I truly do plan on enjoying the fruits of my labor.

 

Well we're trying to let them find their own grooves at this point, with minor guidance and *just enough* support without being pushy. It's kind of a fine line, hidden in a grey area. The girl still plays with her Barbies and plays dress-up with pink princessy stuff, but still cottons to some of her big brother's activities too.



We've got a 25 ft "shooting range" in the basement for Red Ryder practice, which they just finished up with improving results. Lord knows if these kids did this stuff in the backyard, we'd have a SWAT team here before the first beer can target fell. But anyway, the only point is we try to make opportunities available to them and let them gravitate to their natural interests. I don't know how many sad stories I've heard from coaches / teachers / interested observers about kids that were pushed into directions for their parents' satisfaction, with eventual negative consequences. The thing that has been weighing heavily on my mind lately though are the growth and enjoyment opportunities they're missing by living in the city, especially these days. I'm constantly exploring options of relocating somewhere more rural. I occasionally watch or listen to Phil Robertson with a bit of wistful envy...

 

I have a Little Giant trailer which is based on the bed of a pickup truck and is 7' long. Use it to haul my Big Horn wall tent and other camping gear.



Setting up a tent camp is a lot of work, but breaking camp and putting it all away especially in the rain or snow really gets old fast. To live out of for a week or so works well however as a base camp.

Found a utility topper for an extended bed Ford Ranger that fits the trailer perfectly. Used a solid core door as a bed and insulated the walls and ceiling. Basically a place to sleep that is about all there is room for. And if it rains gets even smaller quickly.

 

The setup shit is a no go for me.
Drive up ,unhook, open a door, pull out a chair, and sit your ass down.. done..
I have a hard enough time with the race car trailer and canopy.

 

Wire the thing for 12 bolts and 110.

Last time I had to year down the pop up in rain, and it was warm rain, I was determined to sell it. But we'll give it another try. Can't afford to upgrade right now.

Instructing my nephew a couple years ago, dad’s neighbor has 100yd range in his back yard, things are a bit different when yer zoned agricultural.

 

I have an idea for a box in a box for low profile transport and 30 second setup.
May never make it but fun to think through it.

 

When I was in Scouts our scoutmaster had a hard side pop-up camper like that the upper collapsed over the lower.
