    Damn herbie still won't get spark. Seems like it's missing a ground but they are connected. Getting power to the coil. Anyone want to buy a bug? :laughing:

    is it possibly the coil wire to distributor is bad or broken?
    Check for continuity on both end of the wire.

    I have continuity, and shows 12v at the dist side. (Only have a basic tester that'll show 6, 12 and up volts though not a multi meter) Cap and rotor look new. But if i put the dist end of the wire by metal and turn it over by hand i can't get it to spark.

    take one of the spark plug wires, use it as the coil wire. plug it into the coil, and the center of the distributor cap. It will fire on 3 cylinders. Betting the coil to distributor wire is bad.

    Coil could be bad too, sometimes they just top working. But it may still show voltage.
    Does the spare motor have any ignition parts that can be used?
    There isn't much to those ignition systems.

    this might be a clue, coming from the one owner. Ballast resistor may be bad or missing and could be frying out the coil.
    Parts store run. Ballast resistor, coil, plug wires.
    Bring the rotor cap to make sure the wires fit.
