My pregnant wife decided to rearrange the front end of the 2017 SR5 taco the other day. Currently waiting to hear back whether they will total it or not. Was leaking oil and coolant. She was going about 40 mph and hit another car. No one was hurt, thank goodness. Just was wondering if any of you think it will be totaled or not? It’s a 2017 SR5 with 15,000 miles on it. My uncle owns a body shop and he said cosmetically it’s roughly over 10,000 to fix. To give a little more prospective. Mechanically not sure how much it will cost to fix yet.

I'd say it's most likely a total . The frame will do it in.

I’m assuming airbags went off? It’ll be close.

More importantly—Hope your wife & baby are ok.

Glad your family is ok, looks like insurance would total. Vehicles are replaceable

Airbags deploying does not equate to being totaled.

That being said, pretty sure you have frame damage that will total it out, also considering the cosmetics.

Glad to hear your wife is OK and your baby too. By looks I don't think your insurance will total it but who knows. They would rather fix the vehicle if the cost is under the amount they think it's worth it to them. I see around 10-14 k in repairs IMO. Hoping they total it and you can get a new one.

That sucks. sorry to hear. Someone just posted either today or yesterday that they had over 10k in damage to a wreck and the insurance company is going to pay to get it fixed. Id say as long as the air bags didn't deploy its possible they will. Good luck with everything.

It’s probably worth $25000 or more. I’d say air bags or not, they won’t total it. Frame damage, much higher chance. Looks like impact was high.

    Scary. Glad everyone is ok.

Hope the wife and baby are doing ok.... that's going to be close on being total like 60/40
Air bags and frame would cinch it, but i am not seeing a lot of frame damage there and not sure if all air bags deployed.

Going from first hand personal experience with front end damage worse than I'm seeing here, I'm going with not totaled.
I do hope it goes the other way for the OP.

Do you need to know, or care?
Hard to say without knowing full extent of damage, but more importantly everyone is ok, the hunk of steel is covered by insurance and will be replaced and/or fixed. Give your wife a hug and thank god she, and your new baby, are ok.

    I know you did!

mine happened last year racked up almost 18k of damages. They said if it was over 24k in damage they would have to total it. Got my truck back after a couple months and everything was like it was. Usually after a bad accident they don't drive the same but I didn't notice anything different about the truck since then and that was over a year ago. Best of luck

There was a guy on here who got rear ended and his repairs totaled to about $18,000 if I remember. He had frame damage, but his vehicle was not totaled. I don’t think yours will be totaled.
The leaking coolant was from your radiator probably and I’m sure the oil filter housing sustained damage as there is no real protection from the front.

I’m glad no one was hurt. That’s definitely repairable. Im pretty sure your Insurance won’t total it.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad to hear no one was hurt. I'm assuming she went to the docs after to get checked out? My wife is 7 months pregnant and I would be nervous till she saw her doc if she got into a car accident.

    btw:
I always find it funny in these forums where there's a majority of people saying "A", then when all of a sudden someone posts something logical, everyone says "B". Not knocking anyone but I always find this trend to be kind of amusing. Or at the least there's usually a tipping point in the thread where the mass opinion seems to shift.

It's human nature to go with the crowd. Groupthink, etc. It's also funny how quick people are to give their uninformed, or secondhand opinion on the internet. I've been guilty of it myself.
