I only remember the 1989. Isn’t it like $1.10 for 5 sticks of gum now? :der:

I remember the OPEC oil embargo of 1973 when gas prices went from around 25 cents to 50 cents a gallon almost overnight. It was like the end of the world.:goingcrazy:

I sold my '70 Mustang that got about 12mpg and bought a '74 Celica. It would get 30mpg all day long and with a 13 gallon tank, 5 bucks would fill it.

    Found a pic.

I remember these vending machines were on every NYC subway platform - dispensing little cardboard boxes, each with two Chicklets.

Most platforms had vendors selling newspapers, magazines and candy bars from 8' wide by 4' deep plywood shacks.

You had to buy tokens to get through the turnstiles, brass token with a "y" cut out in the center.

Probably every station had a shoe shine stand also.

    All long gone...

Only time you see those now is Haloween. Our Building had a shoe shine guy/Lady since the late 50's.
That part closed last year. Sadly end of an era but the shoe repair is still there.

    My
First punk concert of any magnitude was The Clash, with English Beat opening for them, SF 1983. Mind blown. Want to several small shows in small clubs, like Red Kross, Fear, etc. Never got to see DK or Black Flag live. It was pretty hard for me to get to those shows in high school. Saw the Clash again at a Day on the Green (Oakland Colesium) opening for The Who. Madnees opened for The Clash.

Then there was Iron Maiden at the Cow Palace... And Accept. I went a bit more metal for a while in college.
