Aftermarket in dash systems for gen 3 Tacoma

Yea mine will either completely crash on me three times in a row or it will disconnect my phone and then when I try to reconnect it the system will freeze up until you turn the truck off and back on. It is quite aggravating.

 

I have a 2017 Limited, and a Galaxy S8, and had only One reboot, ironically after reading this thread.

 

I had the same issue on mine for over a year also. The radio was replaced atleast 4 times by toyota. I found out they were refurbished units. So the tech grabbed one off another lot truck and kept it for a couple days to see if it solved the issue. It did. So i phoned corporate and asked for them to install a new off the line radio and not a refurb unit. I eneded up taking them to camvap court here in canada and winning. They had to pull a radio off the line over seas and get it to me. Ever since i have not had a single issue. Just sucks that you have to fight this hard to get shit done.

 

Besides the entune scout link being unusable garbage, I've not experienced any issues with my 2018 and IOS 11.3

 

It's definitely not just iOS. My wife has a 4Runner with her Galaxy S7 connected to entune and the damn thing reboots every day or two. I'm not looking forward to dropping a ton of cash for something just about all other brands come standard with. But at least I know it'll work and have new features.

 

It’s been an issue with the entune system since they came out. It’s definitely no limited to 3rd gen head units. The 2nd gens were probably even worse. With that being said, do not set up the favorite contacts on your head unit. That feature tends to cause issues. I have a 17’ Pro and have not had a single issue like I had with the 16’ limited and numerous 2nd gens I drove.

 

LOL, I don't even want the brass knuckles, I wan to feel the thing break when my fist hits it. Seriously, my wife has frequently told me to not punch the stupid freaking thing.

Maps suck, driving directions always longer than what needs to be. Voice activation or recognition never works, you need to stop to change anything. I hate it so bad, I don't ever use the bluetooth. When I did allow it, it sucked up my data even when not playing or streaming to it. If any one destroys it, please share the multi angle videos with us.

 

I'm going with kenwood and wireless android auto. Then I can leave my phone on the charging mat and run waze.

 

Anyone ever think of filing a lemon law issue with the factory head unit? I think I’m gonna start a new threat to see.

 

I must be lucky so far. Have had my truck since April 2018 and have had no issues with my entune system. Yeah, wish it had apple car play, but that's another story.

 

What have you done to troubleshoot the issue?

 

They came here and whined.

 

My entune has been ok so far. It's not the greatest radio and I plan on replacing it, but it hasn't had any issues. My wife's 4Runner has had all kinds of issues but that last update fixed her reboot problems.

 

What have I done to trouble shoot this?
1. I reset my iPhone XS to factory settings, then reconnected my iphone. No go.
2. I unpaired my iphone then re-paired it. No go
3. I updated my iphone to the newest iOS. No go
4. I updated the entune head unit itself. No go
5. I paired an older phone (Toyota says my iphone is too new). I paired iphone 7, 8, 10....still static during blue tooth connection. All iPhones have most current iOS.
That’s what i’ve Done to improve connection with blue tooth....still dropped calls, still static connection. And unable to respond via text message ( i know thats not an issue...iphone connection will not have an auto respond ability through the head unit i know)
6. I paired my old android phone. Yes i had auto response on head unit. But i hate androids so no go.

Head unit issues....unable to input address in navigation via voice. Here is what I have done:
1. Ran voice training on head unit 3 times.
2. Reset head unit to factory specs then updated the head unit
3. Ran voice training again. (No i don’t have an Asian, Filipino, or a thick accent) You woulnd’t Be able to tell that I was not from ‘Merrica’ If you talk to me on the phone.
4. When i say “i need directions to an address” entune says: “please say the full address”. I tell it: “8072 adams avenue, San Diego , california” it repeats a totally different address its almost laughable and we laugh until about the 7th time.
5. I have tried this with the windows shut, open, engine running, engine off ignition on, etc. it does not work.
Finally....i hop into my co-workers tacoma...he bought his 2 days before mine. We try his voice commands...head unit gets it totally wrong.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here>.....”this head unit is a piece of crap” hahaha. It’s really a joke. I know I’ll offend some of you entune lovers out there. But I love technology. I love Toyota’s. I am not returning my truck by any means. This thing (entune) is a piece of crap. No i’m Not saying Toyota sucks, I’ve gone back to Toyota. Even though I considered getting a Chevy, gmc, no not ford. But I am simply saying that for a $43,000 vehicle that beats any 4x4 pickups out there now, by far, Toyota messed up by sticking to a Linux based system in 2018.

Yes i took it back to the dealer. We sat and tried to program my voice 3 x over. I am pretty savvy with technology. ITs the system, and I know for a fact that it isn’t user error. The excuses I hear....”every car voice recognition head unit sucks.” No not true. Toyota’s does. I hope that one day, they will realize their deficiency.

yeah the Bluetooth on my truck seems to blow. My galaxy phone connects about 50 percent of the time. My wife’s iPhone connects 100 percent of the time but the audio seems to somehow skip. Like an old scratched CD. So then she has to unpair and then repair and it works fine. I opted for an aux cord from Amazon and it solved all my Bluetooth problems. It’s safe to say my least favorite part of the truck is the entune system. But I understand toyota is known for their vehicles and not for being a software company.

It's terrible. Mine resets when it rains. And it connects intermittently. It'll connect perfectly, I'll go to the store, change nothing on my phone, and then come out 20 mins later and it wont establish.

 

I went with

$850 Pioneer MVH-1400NEX Digital Multimedia 6.2" Display with Apple CarPlay (Does Not Play CDs)

Pioneer MVH-1400NEX and couldn’t be happier. Has apple carplay, doesn’t have android auto though. However, with the maestro and such, it is much better than factory. The only thing is the display is only slightly larger than non-jbl display.

 

just curious. when replacing the oem h/u, how do you get around the entune controls for the truck (eg. door lock, DRL, beep level settings, etc)?
does aftermarket h/u have tie ins to those settings or do you just have to give them up.
