Time to swap out to a Gates FleetRunner belt my bruddah!

The only thing that petrified me about these belts is how close they are in proximity to the cooling hoses and wiring connectors and harnesses.

 

I have a couple in the mail right now!

Hey guys, after all that excitement about the new belt and cutting the pulley to reduce my belt slip, my clutch slave sh!t the bed on me. It's the bearing that came with the URD hydro bearing kit. At first I was going to blame URD, and I suppose I still can, however the bearing itself is actually a Mustang part. The one supplied with the kit is by Exedy. A local Tacoma guy here strongly recommended a Centerforce one, so I bought that. And, it's cheaper, and it's orange, which is good because green isn't really my color. I got a year out of the Exedy one.

 

When's the replacement going in?

 

@rjbiii If it gets here at the predicted date of Wednesday or Thursday, should have it in on the weekend. I'm not looking forward to pulling the transmission/transfer (again). This'll be the fourth time I've done that.

 

That sucks, sorry to hear that man. Dropping the trans does not sound fun..

Amen! Wish i had the tools and skills to drop the tranny on mine. Are you running the lightweight flywheel by chance? If so, does the motor rev noticeably quicker?

 

Yeah, I have the lightweight steel flywheel that URD sells. It does make a noticeable difference in 1st and 2nd.

Also, skills aren't too necessary for transmission removal. It's a pain but not technically difficult.

 

Nice, I am going to put a lightweight one in mine. Should be a nice upgrade since im sticking with lighter wheels & tires! Every little bit helps to make the truck quicker

I think im going to be dropping the tranny in my other truck pretty soon if replacing the master doesn't eliminate the issues I've been having. Crossing my fingers it's an easy fix and it doesn't need a clutch

 

Hopefully you don't need to. Let me know if you want any tips. I have a scissor low-lift trans jack which makes it more doable. Make sure you check/replace the slave too before you take the trans off...

 

Thanks man! The clutch master has been leaking in the cab on mine, and the pedal is releasing at the very top of the pedal stroke. Clutch also started slipping while going up hill in third the other day.. and it didn't want to go into gear recently after sitting parked for a couple weeks. Really hoping it's just the master, but im preparing myself for the worst. Didn't you have a clutch master cyl issue recently?

 

Well, all the symptoms I was seeing were consistent with a bad master BUT... I didn’t do the check I should have (which I read about later) which was clamping the clutch line with vise grips and pressing on the pedal. And... after replacing the master some of the symptoms remain. So I’ve basically ruled everything out except the slave.

 

What does this test provide as far as troubleshooting info?

 

So can you replace the slave without dropping the tranny?

 

If you clamp it and you can't push the clutch pedal down, your master is good.

 

Yeah, it's bolted to the outside of the transmission.

 

What I mean to say, is it's bolted to the outside in the stock position. But with the Mustang bearing retrofit you do have to take the transmission off.
