I got the Rexing V1LP and the adapter from Shapeways wouldn't work, so I had to rip the GoPro mount off which was a royal pain to accomplish. However, I tapped into the Sunroof 20amp ( I don't have a sunroof ) so that I could have constant power and leave it recording while running errands, at the movies, etc. When I don't want it recording ( parked in the garage, in office's protected parking, etc ), I manually turn it off and then back on when I want it running again. It's a bit inconvenient that way, but you'll capture a parking lot hit and run.

I believe most windshield mount cameras use the same type of mount but I'm not sure how the camera angle will look. Probably best to ask the manufacturer.

If you use the adapter from Shapeways, pay attention to what model of Rexing you have in your hands. I bought the Rexing V1LP and and got the Shapways adapter and it wasn't compatible with my Rexing. The Shapeways adapter only works for a few of the various models that Rexing makes.

Just a warning to those who plan on getting the Shapeways adapter, pay attention to the version of Rexing you have. Shapeways doesn't make it very clear that they only make adapters for just a few if the nearly dozen versions. Their adapters are incompatible with my V1LP and they wouldn't refund my $ because I didn't realize that stating that the advertising on their site which Rexing models they support ( only two ). I ended up tossing out their adapter into the recycle bin and took the $13 loss. I spent over a hour removing the GoPro mount only to realize that it's held on by rubber, not the traditional 3M automotive tape or goop used for the emblems. It's my fault for not realizing that, but in the end I'm very please with my install and Rexing.

Added some more durable, thicker edge trim around the SOS Streamline bumper. The other little trim held on with a tiny strip of adhesive and got blown off the first day. The new stuff locks onto the edge without adhesive and looks much cleaner.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
So, our Coma's come from the factory with the GoPro mount? I did not know this. I just assumed that, because mine was "pre-owned", the previous owner put that on the windshield.

Watched a YouTube vid on how to remove it. Supposedly, one just (carefully) heats up the outside of the windshield with a heat gun and the mount pops right off, but this wasn't a Toyota truck.

Yup, 3Gs come with a GoPro mount. I tried the heat method and it just wasn't working ( inside and outside ). The rubber has some sort of super adhesive on both sides of it and to get the residue off the windshield, I used a razor blade flattened as close the windshield/vinyl as I could so that I didn't accidentally cut through the vinyl. In hindsight, it would have been easier to just slide the razor blade behind the mount, but oh well. I can now see part of my Rexing's gray mount from the front, so now I'm on the hunt for some sort of flat black banner or graphic to run across the top of the windshield since CA allows the top 4 inches to be covered.

This is good to know. Think I'll just leave it alone. You probably saved my neighbors from having to explain to their kids that certain words heard coming from my direction are never to be used.

Keep in mind for anyone interested, this clip only works for the V1 model. If you get the V1LG it will not work.

I have had my truck since Mar 2017 and never mounted a GoPro on it, nor am I likely to. I also only notice it when I am cleaning the windshield. For me removal of something I rarely notice, and never while driving, is not worth the risk of a chipped or broken windshield. Sooner or later I will wind up with a damaged windshield as I have replaced one or more on every vehicle I have owned with the exclusion of a bike that was totaled. One of the trucks and 3, I think, of the cars had windshields replaced multiple times during my ownership.

The mount is a very minor annoyance at most for me that will very possibly be removed with no action taken on my part eventually.

For me the headrests in the back seat are more noticeable. I keep them in the folded down position and just put them up when I have backseat passengers 3 or 4 times excluding the dog so far. Actually removed them from my 1st gen and kept boxed up with the stock radio in the house till I traded it in on the 2017.

Agreed. Took me months to even notice it was there. Not worth a lot of bother to remove. Just grateful for the heads-up from @Norsemanvike.

Just a question, why do people get separate cameras and not just a GoPro to record? You can hardware the GoPro so that it stays charging. I’m just curious as to what the difference is because I have no knowledge of cameras.

I'm no dash cam expert either, but I wanted front and rear cameras and did not already own a GoPro (and have no use for one outside of a dash cam). The BlackVue also has an optional power supply monitor that allows the camera to keep recording when the vehicle is off, but will shut it down when the vehicle's battery voltage drops below a certain level.

Because a dedicated vehicle camera auto starts with motion or keyed power. Some record front and rear. Some have record over lock out if they detect a collision.

I'm using my GoPro right now, but it's not hardwired. Dash cams are nice because they are wired with the ignition and my Subaru cam auto records whenever the car is running, loops on a 32 GB card, and has GPS data. I'll get a new cam eventually.
