I feel like my bowling game went down hill once they removed these from bowling alleys. I don't smoke but for some reason bowling just doesn't seem right if I'm not attempting to get cancer from second hand smoke.

    Expensive smokes.
When I started going to bars when I was 18 (legal drinking age back then), Smokes in a bar were around 50 cents, sometimes less.:blahblah:

That took me back to one of my first jobs when I was in High School, as the new Car delivery prep guy at the Toyota Dealer in Clearwater, Florida when it was on Drew Street. I washed and shined many a Celica, as well as Corollas, Coronas, Land Cruisers, and Pickups with the free-standing turn signals on top of the front fenders!

I've had a consistent bowling game average of 100 since the 80's.

When I was in grammar school we didn't have air conditioning in our house, so my Mom would keep this in the dining room in the summer months.

    OK, I will chime in.

I remember regular gas was with lead and cost less than $.75/gallon. I also remember unleaded gas being introduced. Cigarettes were about .$50/pack and it was acceptable to smoke WHILE refueling. Now if you have static electricity you might blow the place up when fueling. Hell, I remember going to the doctor and him smoking during the exam.

I used to buy cigarettes from that type of machine regularly, and they were almost everywhere. Pizza Hut, department store entries, bowling alleys, laundry mats, rest stops, and even in city parks next to the coke and snack machines.

I went to a BARBER for a hair cut and he had a coke machine that was like a chest freezer, only sold 8oz bottles, and one you put your coins in you would drag the bottle through the "maze" to the roller where you could pull it up and out. Then you would use the bottle opener on the side of the machine to open it. Same man cut my hair from age 5 or 6 through 19. As I recall, it was less than $4 or 4.5 for the hair cut when I was 19.

My first job was delivering papers . Started early, 3 weeks before my 13th B-day. By the time I quit and got a "real" job at 16, I was delivering 6 routes a day. 2 routes from one paper and 3 from the other. both covered the same exact area, short of 2 blocks one had pulled in to the south.

I think my fingers stayed black as coal for 3 years.

    Boston? Where is that?

    Just kidding!

First time I went to Boston in the early 80's, one of the things I noticed that really stuck with me was a subway station that had an escalator with treads made of wood- that must have been a really old one.

    No problems with Bean Town!

    Cheers.

Some info about the first "Oil Embargo". I remember my father, who was a district manager for Sunoco going on a business trip to Philadelphia to meet with reps from the Wayne Pump Company, who made the old "Custom Blending" pumps for Sunoco. When I asked him about the trip, he told me it was to discuss developing a new gas pump that used electronic readouts to be able to register gas prices over $1.00 a gallon, which the old mechanical pumps couldn't do. This was in 1970, when gas was $.28 a gallon, 4 YEARS before the "Embargo"! They KNEW it was coming, and it was planned THAT FAR in advance.

My cousin had a Schwinn “Orange Jucie” 5 spd stingray, he always had the cool stuff. My dad and me made a stingray, banana seat, high handle bars. It was my first bike, we took it all apart, painted the frame, new tires, got some chrome fenders for it.

Me too! Living very much in the past here with radios, which is my passion. I run these old rigs in rotation along with my modern Communications receivers.
My '54 Hallicrafters SX-88 is supposedly the holy grail of shortwave receivers. I run it twice weekly and it uses one of the two antennas up on the roof..

My '63 Korting Delmonico Novum AM/FM/SW runs in the kitchen to a powerful AM twin-coil antenna. It gets shortwave too, but I have too many others that I use for that.

This one, the '76 Realistic DX-160 AM/SW gets used every night for falling to sleep to far distant AM or SW. It uses one of the roof antennas.

This is the '77 Realistic Patrolman-9 portable and the '76 Realistic SW-60 portable They both work great still. But they keep in the radio closet most of the time as I have too many running as it is:)

Before i got my Schwinn Collegiate for my 14th birthday, I had a Montgomery Ward 5-speed stingray that I loved. It was cool to me. But my buddy was like your cuz in that he always got the better stuff. He got a Schwinn Grey Ghost. This thing was beautiful and made my bike look so cheap. Gees-remember, front drum brake, rear slick and extended front fork with springs? Amazing.
