Did you just move over more on the 'drivers side'? Looks like enough room.

Would removing the RRT make room, or are they too cumbersome for a quick R & R.

 

That picture is a bit deceiving. There wasn't enough room to easily move to the side to go around... unless I wanted to saw down a good amount of branches and limbs. There was an easy bypass, so I just found a way around.

I sometimes bring my small STIHL MS 170 to clear out blowdown, but I ALWAYS carry my

Silky KatanaBoy (pictured). This saw has come in very handy... especially when exploring forest roads in the spring. My old machete is jealous.

Good call on the lil 170. I find it somewhat amusing that some folks spend gobs of money buying all kinds of crap to up the overland cred. And then don’t carry things I’d personally consider basic essentials for back country travel...a chain saw being an example of such items (regionally speaking of course).

 

Or, at least a hand saw, huh?

 

That was my original post you quoted with the big yellow FJ, I know we got through it with a hi-lift and some “trenching” for the tire to ride down into.


Actually chopped a flat spot into the tree for the jack to rest “safely”. The new breed of Electric (rechargeable) chainsaws certainly has some potential for these type of situations.

If you don’t know how to safely operate a hi-lift jack please find out. They are very dangerous and can remove you from this earth if you put your head in the wrong spot. They are not toys even though they look Overland-AF on your rig. Rant over.

I would like to share some photos of one of best camping trips the wife and I just had together. We were celebrating her birthday. Some of you will recognize this area, we basically had it all to ourselves for six days. Absolutely one of the best times spent together! Timing is everything.

Admittedly, last time out on the trails I wore my flip flops. I'm always very prepared when going out and I thought I brought my boots. I was doing water crossing and walked into the river to do a depth check and lost a flip... Big deal I thought, i brought my boots! After searching the entire truck I realized I didn't!! had to navigate the trails back, getting out numerous times to spot check and figure my routes, in bare feet!! lol... After a long complicated drive back to camp, I found my boots when unloading the gear.. Not sure what the moral of the story is..?

 

Two ways, depending on how hot it is: I bought the Taco to set up for truck camping, in the ARE cap, with A/C, so I won't have to set this up. More convenient, better time management.

Great pic's I grew up in Etoile and fished Rayburn for years.

 

The landlubber camping pics are at Cassel-Boykin, a short boat ride from Etoile. I love Etoile! Especially down in the river bottom.

BigDaddy, can you believe that the US Forest Service made it illegal to get out of your boat and primitive camp on the banks of Sam Rayburn? 110,000 acre lake. 300+ miles of shoreline. And you can't camp on it. Heresy. $450 fine.

 

I heard about that camping deal but did not know it went through. I hunted the core land from waters edge up forever and it's still legal, shotgun only. Dam core lakes are always restricting something, it's all about water sales.
Ya my favorite is the Kingtown area also. Where is Snuff Gulley Texas.

 

Those roadside spots along the river are not so good in the spring...it's like camping next to a jet engine test facility running a 24 hour test.
