Exactly my experience as well. I now have new issues to gripe about.

Easy to say that but the launch of this generation was/is filled with issues. Sad to see some still unresolved.

There has never been a TSB issued to address the specific stumble (at 45mph) you mentioned. That's a fact. I have that stumble. Myself and others find that using high octane fuel gets rid of that stumble That's another fact.

Then you should be test driving other vehicles. Toyota does change stuff, you know that.

I think i may be one of those “IT’S FIXED IT’S FIXED!

Can you share link to that Tech strean you speak of? I may be interested in clearing the learning so it goes back to fresh post TSB?

Also can anyone confirm if OVtune disabled the learning? I have asked him in his thread but did not get direct reply from him.

You said you had a stumble.
As surge is not a stumble. The stumble (similar to misfire) is not related to the transmission that I am aware of and also happens in 6th gear. Try using high octane gas for a tank to see if it gets rid of your stumble. Won't help with a surge though. I would assume.

Again, this is not any different than most other vehicles. Some of the issues go back all the way to the first gen. I'm not a Toyota fan boy by any stretch, but this truck is no different than any other in regards to issues.

Haaa, you are going to argue over semantics. Seriously, give it up. Octane has nothing to do with this issue.

So I’ve been going back and forth reading these posts regarding surge vs stumble. I’ve been guilty of using them both simultaneously but there is a difference. For those of you with a stumble that feel likes a miss, please try premium fuel from a top tier station. I’ve been messing around with mine lately, going back and forth between premium and regular unleaded. Within a few miles of filling up with regular, after running my premium down to the fuel light, I get the stumble/miss feeling back. I just took a 180 mile round trip today after filling up with premium and, walah, no stumble/miss. As far as the surge, I drive for economy and baby my truck. That was a mistake post TSB. So, last tank I drove it hard as my truck is still in learning mode. The shifts are already getting better. I now wish I had driven it hard right after the TSB and all the way through the learning mode.

It's my understanding that the learning mode never really ends. It's ongoing (ie. If you gave the truck to someone else, it would slowly learn their habits and adjust accordingly). By that logic, you should be able to drive it "hard" and it will adjust.

That is not my understanding of the learning mode. My Yukon’s learning mod was over at 1500 miles. GM says it’s usually 1-2K miles. Maybe Toyota is different.

Interesting. This makes little sense to me. So, sell the vehicle and the next guy is stuck with "your" truck's driving habits?

Well, I Lemon lawed my last GMC and had some pretty details discussions with several senior engineers about the driveline vibration. The tranny was mentioned but they told me that after about a thousand or so miles the tranny learning for the Yukon was over. That meant just that - over - meaning no more. So, based on that I’d say, yes, the next guy would be stuck with it. I never really care about who gets it after me. As for the Toyota, think about it. Do you want a truck that is constantly learning? What if your wife drIves it and it starts adjusting to her? Then it’s screwed up for you.

The Toyota constantly adjusts to driving habits, which makes way more sense than a “one time event”. I believe that has been one of the challenges for the OV Tune people. Trying to disable that.
