Nature geek with 2 kids 4 and under and a new truck without armor (waiting on sliders). I am planning to road trip to Flagstaff in Oct or early Nov. This going to be our first roadtrip using a 4x4. It would be awesome if we can get in some easy offroading or dirt roading and see some cool scenery.

Google is returning some good info but your first hand experience is much more regarded. Suggestions appreciated for trails between LA and Flagstaff with more emphasis near Flagstaff & and Petrified Forest NP.
    Thanks in advanced.

Google the Cinder Hills OHV area and trail. That's on my list of must-do trails in the area. Otherwise, there's always Sedona, too.

I'm not familiar with the area, but you might just try finding some Forrest Service roads in the area (if there are any). Look for MVUM's (motor vehicle use maps). I really like the idea of just driving around and exploring what's out there. It's an adventure after all. If it gets too technical, you can always turn around and find another road.

great lesson for the kids, too. My kids love it. Don't forget to stop often and let them play in the dirt too!
