Ya to each their own. Personally I love the outdoors - but I've spent enough of my life carrying all my stuff on my back and sleeping on the ground or the hood/front slope/turret of a vehicle and I'm kind of over that aspect. I'm all about getting outdoors but I'm starting to appreciate some of the creature comforts that camping from a vehicle provide. Ya a lot of it is overkill and probably not needed. But planning/working on the vehicle is a lot of fun for me too.

Some people camp outside on the ground in a $30 sleeping bag.

Some people camp in a $300k motorcoach on a concrete slab with hot water, electricity, AC and satellite TV.

Both sides don’t understand each other, and care too much about what others are doing IMO.

I remember before overlanding was a trending hashtag and camping was camping, and if I had a good neighbor who needed help with something, I’d help. Or maybe share a cold beer and some handshakes. Other times I had no neighbors.

None of those times did I get bothered by what they were using to camp with. Not sure why that matters now, but if overlanding campers are annoying these days, I’d say people who have to judge are the bigger annoyance.

    Amen! You sound like me!
No rig will be able to go places your legs can take you!
When I was a kid overlanding was what you see on the Camel Trophy, that was actually bad ass! Not people trying to take their living room into the outdoors which - to me - goes against the whole point of being outdoors.
Some of those overlanders need an RV, they just don't know it yet

I like your last paragraph. People are people, and often we find reasons to divide us and I’d rather find common ground, like how we are all obsessed with our trucks in whatever form they take, for whatever reason.

Pretty cool vid Dave... and I don't care what people think about "Overlanders" your truck is dope!

And not everyone gets to have a professional 20 minute video to add to their build thread

But... no mention of the 209 Tacos? C'mon man! (just kidding).

First to admit I get more laughs out of overlanding than I should, but I’m looking at the intense narcissism of some of the participants more than anything, the gear industry itself is pretty amazing.

Pretty sure some guys jerk off to their personas or have boring, missionary sex with their wives while she tells him how nice the current build is.

That part I don’t get, people idolizing their caricature so much that they just evolve to become it.

Man I was trying to remember so much, and I’ve done a lot of public speaking for years, I even stand in the operating rooms as surgeons scream and yell with a spine split open no problem, but right before it started Michael surprised me with an Instagram live thing and then all these comments started flooding in live on his screen as he caught me off guard and rattled me. Hahahahaha

Then it was like ok let’s shoot! My rig isn’t the best, and humbled to have the opportunity to be showcased, so that’s why I wanted to try to really mention and help some of the vendors I use!33E81307-F823-4163-8DD1-FE0A4942D5E7.jpg

Right on bro... I'm just givin you crap. You did a great job, especially being put on the spot.

I would have probably just said "Tacoma good, much fun thingys installed, me like camping is good."

Very nice build. I don't care much for the Overland Bound channel (I'm sure they're all nice people. Just don't care for the vids), but you built a nice truck. I've been eyeing that dash mount system you've got. Very elegant solution.

Not sure why an overlander video was shot on pavement. 500 feet more and you would have been off-roading according to the sign.

It’s always a thing. Just let it happen. The internet is full of overland videos with over the top titles, and no real payoff. They just need to vent their admiration of themselves and their accomplishments. Nobody would click and watch if the screen cap and title told the truth... “capt. mundane-o’s trip to the Hoover dam campout”

Hahaha I’m confused. Are you wondering why the walk around to show one example of a DD to an off road vehicle was shot on a road? In 500 feet there’s a gate with cows and private property beyond so with location and timing restrictions of the day that was a scenic location for us to discuss the topic.

If you watched, and I benefited from one of your builds, thank you! Sometimes seeing what other people have done and why is really helpful.

It's lucky for all the rest us that some of you are around to let people know they're not enjoying their lives correctly. Jeez some of you are so salty about "overlanding". You sound like the millennials you claim to hate so much. "OHHHH IIII did it before it was cool when it was camping. WHY ISN'T EVERYONE PAYING ATTENTION TO ME?!?! Tell me how cool I am for sleeping on the ground because I obviously need this validation of my life" Put your camping setup on instagram and I'm sure you'll get a few clicks if it's bothering you so much that people aren't giving you the likes.

Whoa whoa whoa calm down scro. My first Instagram post was BCC21FC2-4D7F-4A93-A233-BB154B45EAF9.jpg
A little late to the game, but back then it was an iPhone thing for photos, not attention desperation. For myself, it’s still about goofy photog stuff between friends, I know everyone I follow personally, and vice versa. Not everyone needs likes dude. In your world, maybe this is a requirement. You’re completely missing the point of 1)Instagram (Instagram itself has missed the point of Instagram now) 2) why people make fun of overlanders.

If it’s attention overlanders require, they will get it. I overland. Totally. And I don’t bring a tent, or sleep on the ground. But I refuse to mount a god awful contraption that looks like a zipped up bouncy house to the top of my bed rack. It looks atrocious from every angle.

Cool story, bro. I don't have a facebook or instagram, but I'm glad there's people that do like to do that shit so when I'm looking for ideas they're already out there. My point that you don't seem to get is why is it your job to shit on "make a mockery of" people so you can save them from unchecked egos growing too much? I didn't see anywhere in the video where he said he's pioneering anything, just a video of a guy explaining what he put on his rig for doing stuff he enjoys. Do you actually think there's people that want to go camping, but stop because they don't have a roof-top tent? But hey you do you. I guess the world needs haters too so we all don't have unchecked happiness. Wouldn't want that kind of silliness in the world. I'm gonna go put on the news now so I can hopefully see some more depressing shit, and I'll let you get back to making fun of people.
