    Sounds like
Right - the lack of a box only affects 3rd gens, and apparently only recent 3rd gens. Us 2nd gen guys are all set for once.

Possibly. Still trying out various mounting locations. keep in mind the propex requires you run two hoses outside the vehicle, one for combustion intake and one for exhaust. These hoses are about 2' long and the exhaust can get hot enough to melt plastic, so the locations are limited.

That's what I figured. I am pretty used to sleeping in the teens very comfortably and am sure i can go lower, so not too concerned about getting heat although, not gonna lie, that would be a really nice option!

Could the hoses be led upward and through the front panel with the hot one being insulated?

I have one of the slightly bigger ones, ran about $70.

Ran it for 10 minutes after waking up last time I was camping. Right about freezing outside, at least 60 inside.

Made getting in the waders and getting out at 5:30 for duck hunting very comfortable.

To my mind a heater is primarily for when you're not sleeping. A good sleeping bag will keep you warm in sub zero temperatures. When it's cold outside but too early to go to bed is when a heater is nice. let's you hang out inside. Also nice for when you get up in the morning. Or to warm up post surf without having to crawl into a bag. I would spend $500 on a sleeping bag long before I spent that on a heater.

I’ve got good sleeping bags. I agree that for ‘hanging out’ time it would be nice to be warm. But it’s also nice to climb into a warm sleeping bag.

Ps:when I’m car camping I just brewing extra blankets...one tote can carry a lot of warm blankets...

I have often wished for the ability to brew up some extra blankets :)

Me too. Damn auto correct on my phone. Instead of 'bringing' beer - I sometimes just 'brew' up extra. That's how I roll.

Funny story - I was a tour guide - guiding camping trips in AK. I went all summer with a cheap sleeping bag as I was poor as dirt. One night late summer I woke up around 5 am - damn cold. Not dangerous cold - but DAMN cold. I bought a real sleeping bag at REI the very next day.

@wileydavis I know you didn't touch on the insulation yet, but were you thinking more along the lines of upper and lower or just upper? If you've ever been around the lakes you know how the wind chill drops the temperature; last year it was pretty regular to see 5* feels like -15* with some gusts going. Upper insulation is where my priorities are lol.

If you’re inside the tent the windchill won’t be a factor.

Touche. Wasn't exactly my point. Seeing you're from AK I'd say you understand my dilemma. Northern MI where I plan to camp this winter has history of seeing -15* regularly.

At those temps I don’t think any insulation would make much of a difference. A decent heater would work better. I’ve used my ice house heater to heat a RTT, ice fishing tent and awning room in temps below zero like that and it works well. On the low setting it only takes a minute or two to make a comfortable difference. A vented and thermostat controlled Propex would be awesome but is a lot more money.
