Hi-Point 380 $135.00?????

I came across this gun when I was shopping for a 380 for concealment purposes, and wanted any insight if it is a good gun or not, so far the reviews on other websites say it is a great gun and a great value...does anyone have any experience with this piece?

 

Yes, piece of shit. We wouldn't sell them in the shop I worked at, we wouldn't work on them when someone came in whining about it jamming. The few Hi Point .380s and 9mms we came across had feeding problems and their build quality on these guns was childish.

Lol a Hi Point 9mm came into the store - the owner didn't want it, didn't want anything for it, so we took it off his hands. The manager offered it for free to any of us. No one took a free gun.

Are you dead set on a .380? I ask because you can get a quality compact 9mm instead and save some $$$ on ammo.

Kel-Tec .380 is another cheap jam-o-matic.

 

I've got a Hi-point 9mm. It shoots fairly well and rarely jams, but there's much better guns out there.

Edit: the times it has jammed, it was due to a bad magazine

 

What is a good 9mm for concealment? What caliber does this translate to?

A 9mm comes out to being around 38 or 380 caliber not exactly but very close how ever the bullets weights more and has a lot larger charge behind it.

Kal tec sucks my girlfriends stepdad has two and the build quality is terrible. If you want a 380 go with the Ruger LCP I got mine for $300 and it is pretty tough. It's pretty accurate to 10 yards and I still got all the bullets in a 10 inch target at twenty five yard even though at that distance your more likely just to piss some one off and can't really justify self defense if you have an escape route. Just my .02 cents

 

Ruger makes a compact slim 9mm thats had good reviews. the thing with glocks and XD for conceal are that they are fatter guns (my opinion) I would want a more slim gun for carry.

 

It's popular to bash Kel-tec and Hi-point but Guntest magazine and the Gunblast website both had positive things to say about them.
I would definitely buy a Hi-point or Kel-Tec carbine.
No worry there.
If you must have an autoloader to concealed carry, look at Kahr.
The thinnest autoloader out there.
PM9 is my daily carry and I sometimes have to look to make sure I have it.
Thin and light is what you want with CC.

 

I have a springfield xd .45 already but it is a 4" and too big to carry in my pants.

 

I have a Kel-tec 380 and I like it. A little polishing on the feeding ramp does wonders. I have a belt clip on it and can carry it in the front pocket of my jean shorts. If you notice it, it looks like a knife clip or something but certainly not a gun. Its my "better than nothing" gun, when I cant comfortably conceal something larger.

The Kahr's are by far the nicest compact 9mm I've fired. They are just not in my price range. I carry a Taurus PT111. Decent grouping, early model with some issues with the take-down pin, but otherwise no complaints and the price is right.

 

.380 is aka 9mm Kurz, 9mm short. The caliber of .380 and 9mm is the same. 9mm has a longer case, more powder charge, more velocity, and is much cheaper.

+1 to a Kahr PM9. Its my summer carry. Reliable, comfortable, slim, lightweight. With nightsights I got it for around $680 new I think. I know its a lot more than the $135 you were going to spend, but I wouldn't skimp on something if you're going to carry it.

I have a HiPoint 9mm because it was broken and my friend just gave it to me. I didn't realize that HiPoint has a lifetime warranty on their weapons, no matter who the new owner is. I returned the 9mm to them. With 2 weeks I got it back with many new parts and double tapping like a champ. I've never had a jam or misfire. But it is a beast of a pistol. Very heavy with a large footprint. No good for a CW.
