Well, based on the answers I've received to the questions I've asked, it doesn't sound like the 1.04 tune incorporates the latest TSB changes, so perhaps you are in effect downgrading by tuning 1.04 after the latest TSB. I believe 1.05 is supposed to incorporate the latest TSBs and improve on them. Can someone verify this?

There were 1.04 files , then Matt released a 1.04R file (both for automatics) . the 1.04R files have the benefits of the TSB from what I remember. Each version had 87 and 91 and stock tune files .
Edit , in order to run 1.04R you need the TSB from the dealer as it is for 04B04

    1.04 is for 04B02 and 04B03
1.04R is for 04B04 (latest TSB)

Huh... I don't have 1.04R, or at least my file doesn't have that in the file name. Just 1.04. Perhaps 1.04R was only built specifically for people with the latest TSBs? This is so confusing. I can't get a straight answer to whether or not I need the latest TSBs to get the most out of the tunes.

Ok, so as I suspected. There is a special tune for those that already have them. What does this mean moving forward? Do I need the TSBs or what?

My truck didn't like 1.04R 91 either, pretty much the same story as yours plus a bit of stuttering when not up to temp. I didn't try 1.04R 87, but 04B13 was pretty good.

You should be able to give it a little gas and see the revs rise faster than your road speed. Usually a couple hundred rpms. Most noticable on hills. Our trucks rarely run unlocked.

Yes. I won't go into more detail until Mat chimes in.

When Toyota released the 0058/62 TSB's , Matt released the 1.04R tune so OVTune owners who had the TSB applied could still run a tune to tide them over until 1.05 comes out. The old 1.04 tune could not be used if the new TSB's were applied to the truck.

You have that backwards. When the revs are rising faster than your road speed (for a given gear) your torque converter is unlocked.

He doesn't check this all the time cause its impossible for him to track all of it. If you email him here it will create a ticket in his system and he will get to it as he goes down the list.
