But I don't use the foot/defrost setting. I use the face/front vent only setting.

It is not the setting on your dash. it is a programming setting that the dealer can change using Techstream.

I live in FL, drive a limited with the dual zone. My windheild does NOT have a habit of fogging up with the AC on, nor do my defrost vents blow AC if and when I leave it on auto. The wife drives a Rav 4 her does not have the problem either. Go to your dealer and ask them to check and change the setting.

OP I understand exactly what you are saying. I get the condensation analogies with soda cans people are saying but that is not what you are talking about. I do not have auto AC. I do have the same problem.

When AC is on and front vent is selected it also blows slightly out of the defroster causing the patch of condensation to form. The defroster is not selected and you (and I) feel that no air should come out of the defroster until the defrost option is chosen.

    Correct?

I assume auto A/C is the one without the old fashioned knobs?

My truck does the same thing as OP. It’s mainly when driving at night because of the weather in Florida. I do usually have the truck set to face/feet air setting due to “low” still being pretty hard blowing and the only option under is “off”. FL vehicles can never have an A/C off while driving. Not even in winter!

I have my Truck at the dealership right now about this Issue and also the vibration coming to a stop like the "rumble strip" TSB. A toyota engineer is suppose to stop by and the shop foreman going to look into these Issues.

Oh good keep us updated on what they say. Do you also have the whistle that happens when the ac is on intermittently? I wonder if they are related.

I suspect every truck has this problem and it's "normal". It's not a big deal for me, really.

OP did you get a verdict?

I realized yesterday my work car also does the same thing. That one I can believe is a worn out seal. It’s I think a 2013 with about 9800 engine hours last I checked.

Having a terrible experience with the dealership and the service manager is awful. Right now both issues are coming back as "normal". The point of this second visit was to be with a Toyota Engineer. That didn't happen and the truck was done last Friday but didn't get call. I had to call yesterday to find that out. Been using a enterprise rental from them. Going to the dealership this afternoon and gonna talk to sales, the lady that sold me the truck and talk to upper management. Def not happy about all of this. I'm not gonna settle with these Issues. So something's gonna have to happen. Keep you guys updated.

I have a 2016 SR5 with the manual A/C and live in Houston. I have the same problem every morning. I usually toss a spare microfiber towel on the dash in the mornings to cover where the air is coming from, and it stops the condensation.

Got my truck back because they can't have me continue to use the rental. The dealership service manager and Toyota case manager both have pics, documents, etc about my Issues. I have to wait to hear back Monday from Toyota. Hopefully they will send a Field Tech. I'll keep you guys updated.

You are misunderstanding what this setting does. It only goes to foot/defroster when heating. He is having this problem when cooling.

OP My truck doesn't do this. Get the dealer to fix it.

Just a FYI.. “we’re having a Toyota engineer come take a look,” does not happen nearly as often as it’s pretended to.

It’s shop talk for “we’re going to need a few days to get to your issue.”

Engineers get involved sometimes, but rarely are on site. In my case, my ECU data was recorded in real time, then sent to an engineer who downloaded it and gave the foreman some direction.

Rumble strip feeling is a common issue, as is the functionality of the HVAC settings. Both go back to second gen trucks.
