Considering that I'm willing to lose thousands on trading a three month old truck, yeah I'd be down for a "TRD Tune" if it made my truck drive normally.

There are TSBs out there to help you. If your dealer won't help you with those, there are TW'ers that will. Loading the updates is a piece of cake.

Meh - more power is always more fun, but for my needs the Taco has plenty. :hattip:

I think the demands for power have changed with the times. It’s not the truck, it’s the consumers. You all knew you were buying a Tacoma. These were never expected to be track cars or drag racers, and they are fully capable of doing 80 in the dirt, which you will probably never do.

Truck needs better power response and shifting. Tons of people here dropping $800+ on OVtune and for what? The feedback I’m seeing is the tune isn’t so great after all. Really?? So people are giving positive reviews for the OV tune just like the Tacoma because they are emotionally invested in the purchase and wouldn't dare face the embarrassment to admit maybe their money would have been better spent. Things that make you say “hmmmmmm”

Your definition of a ton? 2000? Not even one percent of the 3rd gens sold.
And, people do shit like that every damn day. Just read the posts like "I just spent $5K on my lift and bumpers and I still get the same mpg" crap. Very few ever like to admit their mistakes. If you don't believe me, google "placebo."

Toyota just slaps those TRD stickers on most of the trucks, and everyone just accepts that they are buying "racers".....

Since stickers are meaningless, Toyota should just start slapping "HILUX' on the SR and SR5's....

How about changing TRD to Toyota Reliability Development....me with my SR5 would ask "isn't my truck reliable?"

Answer.....it's just a sticker kid, your truck is just as reliable as the Sport Off-road etc.....kinda the same imo......:crapstorm:

Or read the thread where the guy bought 5100s, then blew them out immediately doing high speed desert shit before making his “Bilstein sucks” thread.

Right. And the stickers don’t command the 7 to 8k difference from my truck to a sport. Stickers, hood scoop, and those “sporty” oem shocks still don’t cover that difference.

As a fanboy, it irks me that they boosted the price for that, and people pay it. There’s nothing wrong with making money. And there’s nothing wrong with what Toyota did, it just seems a little unfair. The community on this site represents a minute fraction of tacoma owners I’ve heard. I wonder how the rest of the world would react if they knew that the difference between an SR and their TRD at best is a locker and at worst is a paltry sound system, basic shocks, plastic trim and a hood scoop. No matter how you cut it, a v6 and locker for 7/8 k seems kinda high.

None of that bothers me really.

Marketing is a very subtle art, and getting people to part with their hard earned dollars is the name of the game.

Every time I have purchased a vehicle, the requirements were slightly different- this time it was access cab, 6 cylinders, AT and 4x4.

That's what I got and am happy.

Doesn't matter what badges or stickers were on the thing.

But my little SR5 can really haul ass when I give it some juice.....lol

Lol, Yup. Love how some will balk at 800 bucks for a tune but will then spend thousands on shit they rarely use. Don’t know about you, but every time I start my truck, there it is... To each their own, and lets be honest, the release of the latest TSBs will result in fewer ppl looking for an aftermarket tune from a driveability standpoint. M/T at least.

Not all trucks react the same to identical tune files. I am not bench racing, I know this from first hand experience.

I definitely would have picked up a SR5 DCLB M/T... if they fucking made them. Paid extra for the OR, and have a shorter cab. But I got my M/T and that was the main thing for me and my situation.

This is exactly why Toyota discontinued the TRD Supercharger program.
