It’s pretty common when it comes to sales. If you don’t mention seeing a lower advertised price, they aren’t going to bring it up either. You coulda just been some sucker that walked in off the street on a whim.

Don’t act like they are going to take advantage of you. Use reverse psychology,
Walking thru the showroom, slip and fall,
tell them you are going to call your
lawyer. When you freak them out about a lawsuit, then they come to their sense
and you can really get a good deal. Go on a busy day and make sure there is a lot of people to make a commotion. Better price or
    else.
Stay away from dealers that offer free hotdogs and popcorn, the more free shit,
the more you are going to pay unless
you follow the slip exercise above.

    Hope this helps.

When I bought my truck I wanted the side steps and bed cover took off.

They told me it was custom fit to the truck, I didnt believe them but didnt feel like arguing

Right before I left he said he liked the cover that I could just take it off and sell it later if I still hate it.

All of our sales staff have their BSME undergrad and MBA's lol. I'm sure you meant CAR salesmen, not salesmen in general.
For what it's worth, I never have a problem with dealers. I just know to expect the BS and plan accordingly.

Find the best price they can sell it for before you go..tell them if you will sell it for x I’ll buy it. If they say anything other than ok, leave and go to the next dealership. Or if they meet your price say thanks, I’ll be back later to seal the deal..take that price or call the next dealer and make em drop it 500 less. Do this until someone says nope we can’t do that and you found rock bottom.

In Va car dealer advertising is strictly regulated and enforced by the DMV to be in line with truth in advertising laws. I assumed it was most places.

When I bought our Jeep I did some scanning online to what a fair purchase price was and I set my sights on that as my top figure. I knew the rate I could get and the term I wanted so my monthly payment fell out from that.

I went to the dealer that had the Jeep we wanted (we had just received a payout check from my wife's totaled car...thanks not at fault / new car replacement) and asked for an out the door price of $1,000 less than the value I thought was fair. Dealer came back $500 above that and I had them throw in $300 worth of accessories we'd buy anyways and called it good.

Did I leave a few hundred on the table, maybe, but I knew what I was comfortable paying that I thought was fair and I ran with it. Buying based upon trying to get a payment where you want it is terrifying as you never know the games behind it. A dealer tried to pull that BS on my Mom once as they were running a payment based ad and when they came back with the "actual" payment / term they were trying to sell the car over MSRP. We walked straight out of the dealership on that one.

It was 1450 installed but I also have the extra led lights in the bed and led lights mounted to the cover itself

The dealership just posts the best possible price online with all the rebates. Chances are you won't be eligible to receive all the rebates but the dealer has gotten you into the dealership and that is what they want.

That's bullshit if you ask me. Besides the post-sale markups (taxes, fees what not) the online advertised price should be the price you can print out and bring in - unless it clearly states there are caveats. OP mentioned there was no fine print at all. There is no other business that would get away with it other than the stealerships really.

I’ve got no problem with that as long as it’s disclosed on the site. But since it’s not, like I said, false advertising.

There is a dealer in my area that does not negotiate on price. They have it listed on their web page and that is it. You either pay what they want or you move on.

I view their Tacoma's for sale from time to time to see what they have got and prices. Usually they are pretty close to what I would be willing to pay. Sometimes their prices are a little higher that what I would pay and it usually a product of dealer add ons and things I wouldn't want.
