I find myself fast forwarding through a lot of YouTube videos anymore. Especially car channels

YouTube is not what it used to be, I'll say that. We're seeing more and more of sponsorships, ads, and just made-by-the-recipe videos that aren't unique. It's so commercialized now.

A guy I went to high school with owns a very popular YT gaming channel (MYSTIC7) with 1.7 Million subscribers. He didn't go to college because that's his full time job, he makes three figures a year off ad revenue and sponsorships.

YT the first few years after its advent was truly something special, people were actually trying to be innovative, funny, and informative.

Nowadays we have assholes like Logan Paul who take video of dead bodies in a Japanese suicide forest.

Correct. I posted my first YT video when I was eight.

 

Some channels have an arc. I think a lot of content creators are living in a bubble and a nuclear arms race.

why do you think i live in the woods. i got a sign saying "You'll be shot if your not welcomed" at my driveway. and another one saying "i mean it" half way down.

 

One of my favorite YouTubers was a guy named KipKay. Back in the day, he made these excellent videos on homemade electronic devices, life hacks, how-to's, etc etc. He was a columnist for MAKE Magazine years ago.

Then he slowly fell off the map, lost his job with MAKE Magazine, and now his videos are all just glorified ads with thousands of dislikes.

I've noticed that a lot of popular channels rush to put out a video even if the content is garbage. There's a race to stay current even if it means sacrificing quality.
