That was my Monday 0200. Apparently the heat waited until then to kick on...and set the alarm off in the guest bedroom. I had to take the detector off the ceiling and stuff it in a safe to get some sleep. I blew it out with canned air the next day and it's been fine since.

Really wish we could!!! Monday set us back a lot in the field, yesterday didn't help.

This morning is borderline disastrous. I left early yesterday planning to come in early per usual and process all the jobs.

Havnt been able to do one thing yet today. Not even clock in!

As someone said earlier, the Texas Lotto was originally approved by the state because most of the proceeds were supposed to go toward education funding. If you take a look at the Tx Lotto website, there is a breakdown of where the money goes and it states that YTD, $98M has gone to education in 2019 alone. Not bad huh? Well...the reality is that it goes to the "Foundation School Fund" which is then picked apart by every other politician and state agency to fund their non-education related projects. How much actually makes it to the classroom level is still a mystery to me, but I cannot imagine that its very much when I see Teachers having to work a second job to pay household bills. Its a sad situation that we devalue our teachers so much, yet we pay athletes and entertainers astronomical figures.

I'll get off the soap box now. Apologies

And good morning SA! Just curious if there are any other late 40's guys on here? I'm 47 and live in the Stone Oak area. I have a Taco (obviously) and I also have a '91 Land Cruiser. Always looking for someone with whom I can BS about vehicles!

My wife is a teacher, and she is seriously considering a new profession. She's been teaching for 8 years now, and got her Master's about 4 years ago. With a Master's stipend, she gets a whopping 1000 dollars extra per year! If you add up the amount of time she spends after school at night on the weekdays, and all the time she spends over the weekends doing work, I'm sure she makes well below minimum wage. She really loved teaching until we moved to the Hill Country. There are so many politics involved in schools now. Also, school is no longer about teaching kids the material, rather than getting them to pass these state mandated tests. It's pathetic, to say the least.

Agree, my wife was a High School teacher for 12 years and has a Masters in Curriculum Development too. When our kids were younger, it was cheaper for her to stay home with them than for her to work and pay child-care, so she quit teaching and is a volunteer PTA president at our middle school and high school. She raised almost $80K last year for the schools just to supplement school-supplies, continuing education costs for staff, coffee in the lounge and other things that should be covered by our Tax dollars. She has befriended many of the teachers over the years and, unless they have a spouse with a good salary or they are willing to take on additional jobs/responsibilities, its almost impossible for the teachers to have a comfortable life on their salary. Yet, as a society we gripe about how well our schools are doing and the education our kids are getting.

Everyone wants their kids to be baby-sat during the day and be a Rhodes Scholar when they come home, but most don't want to pay for it or put in the extra-effort to help their kids be successful at home. School is a big part of our kids education and life, but it doesn't stop when they leave the campus. Parents have a responsibility to do the pull-through at home...and it doesn't happen often enough.

Well, obviously this is a hot spot for me. Sorry again for the rant....

Wife can’t get a job with her masters in education. They’d have to pay her more and we’re not related to anyone.

I don't usually play but when the pot gets up there I figure I've got as good a chance as any, right?

    Welcome!

    Welcome!

Nah, stay up on that soap box! My wife's a teacher, it's a crime what they (don't) pay them. Stay pissed off about it otherwise nothing will change.

Same boat here. Her school is so corrupt when the state said they were to get a raise, the school district called it an "attendence initiative". So, if she takes a day off, even with a doctor's note, even if she's giving birth, even if I die, they take $100 a day for each day she misses and at the end of each semester give them whatever remains. She went full Michael Jordan last year and went to work with the flu for nearly ten days because she didn't want to lose the money.

Here's a really screwed up fun fact: whatever you're hired at is your base pay for life. There's a teacher working at her school that is making $1800/month. When my wife started at $3k/month she was already making nearly twice as much as a dedicated teacher who had been there nearly 20 years! New hires are getting around $3600/month. They renew their contacts at their starting pay and the district does nothing to ensure equal pay across grade levels.

It's her last year teaching. The kids are getting worse. The parents are getting younger and more apathetic. The demands are becoming increasingly ridiculous. The pay is still non-existent.

Ok I'ma put that on pause before all y'all's eyes stay bleeding or something.

    Morning SA!

Yeah, it's really pathetic. I'm hoping we win the lottery soon before my son has to start school so she can home school him and he won't be put through the BS that we call public education.
