Need some help.
I have installed new 6X9 soundstream speakers in the front doors
I have a set of MB Quarts component speakers and will install the tweeters in the front to replace the stock speakers, and the 5.5 mids in the rear doors.
My question.
I fully understand the wiring, what I want to know is what is the best way to set up the front speakers. The 6x9's sound great but I want to add the tweeters, I know I need some kind of crossover in the wiring but I'm not sure the best way to go about it. Some sort of bass blocker?

the compnents should come with a crossover but it won't work out that well with that set up, you will be running 6x9s that have a mid and a tweeter along with a tweeter on it's own in the front and then just a mid in the back, also the 6x9 will be getting the same power as the tweeter.

 

The 6x9s are two way. What I am trying to find out is if I can use a bass blocker for the front door tweets and if so what frequency?

What you are planning/wanting to do is honestly not even close to something I would consider but:

The high pass filter you would need to do that is already on the 6x9 connected to the tweeter part of the speaker. Soundstream doesn't give the crossover point that I could find (I didn't look very hard) so I don't know if that's even close to the crossover point of the tweeters you want to use, but if you want to cut off at the high end of what the 6x9 is, just use the high pass filter already mounted to the high frequency driver of the 6x9.

Be aware that you will probably have a very hard time getting any semblance of high/low balance with this set up and you might end up with a huge dip or spike at the crossover point.

I would be more inclined to connect the crossover like you normally would to a component setup, but simply have the tweeters remotely mounted in the front door with a longer wire running from either the highs or lows depending on where you mount the crossover. At least this way you could attempt to balance the front door using fader controls and disabling the high frequency driver on the front 6x9s wouldn't be hard if that is something you are considering.

If the 6x9 speakers will fit into the rear doors somehow, I strongly suggest moving those back and installing the MB Quart components in the front.

 

You should have quit here....there's no reason for him to go down this path. Buy a decent set of coaxials for the rear doors and call it a day. I'm sure you could sell off your components.

Why don't you put the components up front and put the 6x9's in the rear? I would focus on front sound staging.

IMO, Components in the front, no rear fill. But I'm a sucker for a deep front stage.

 

Trade them for some coax 6.5 and put those in the rear then. Or put the stock back in the rear and put the components up front.

 

Why on the utube TACO-TUNES video do they put 6x9's and a tweeter in the front doors?
The soundstream 6x9's sound great all by themselves, why would it hurt to have an extra tweeter in the top location.

 

it would hurt because components are made as a pair, and what you want to do is put a component tweater with a mis-matched 6x9

 

They were probably 6x9 components...not coaxials

 

two sets of tweeters = wave cancelation = bad

Not to mention the extra reflections / refractions and other sorts of things that go into dealing with two of the same frequency reproducers next to each other.

It can be done, but it's not recommended.

 

It's not likely that the tweeters will cancel each other since the frequencies played are quite high. However, it IS very likely that it will be ear piercing in the treble region and will make you want to claw your eyes out.
