    Absolutely. Pay once cry once

Remember, the 3rd gens are 300lbs heavier in the front than the 2nd gens

Yeah, thanks man. So any reason why your truck didn't lift as high as you wanted? Thats obviously a concern and wouldn't want to do all this and be dissatisfied. Also, 887 or 888 coils?

Thanks... but how often do you wheel, and do you take it seriously? I'm hardly even a weekend warrior and prob do more mall crawling. Its mostly about the truck looking better to be honest. BUT for the cheddar, I also want to justify the suspension being a tad better than the stock too.

So what are you saying then, that 6112s will hold the front up better than 5100s? Sorry just trying to understand.

So then still go 6112/5160 at 5/6th notch, just no UCAs for now. I'm down with that if I don't need an alignment every week.

Your truck. I Offroad almost every weekend and do some stuff that gets me on 3 wheels. That being said I would do the 6112’s before OME. I didn’t like the OME because of the stiffness.

Once you add the cost of the additional coils to the 5100s you're almost 2/3's the cost of the 6112/5160 combo. May as well go whole enchilada.

It seems like ppl only go 887 bc they don’t want to buy UCAs.. 888s you’ll def need UCAs.

And not sure why ppl go 5100 in the rear, 5160s are much better

OK... thanks for all the help. Now to save some more... how important is going Dakar medium over an AAL? Again, I would just be looking to retain factory towing/payload specs. The AAL would save money too. For the 6112s at the 5/6th notch... would that need UCAs?

I have 888 which should be more than 887 but if I did it over I would do 886 coils because those are higher rated for bumper winch etc and should give slightly more lift. All I can say is a DCLB 4x4 is heavier...the heaviest, so that I assume affected the lift.

And all in all I have seen numerous tacos that look sick, lifted, tires etc, come to find they have blocks and spacers as their lifts, less than 300$. I know its frowned upon but many ppl even do that and still offroad with no problems

The Dakars hold a lot of weight. ALOT

The 6112 will hold up just fine.

FWIW I've had the 5100s and 885 coils for the last 15k miles, the ride has been great for me but my split is more 90% pavement 10% offroad now and I'm putting close to 60 miles a day on my truck. I dont need a dirt crawler when I'm on the highway 40 miles a day.

Maybe you need to find someone with 5100s on in your area and take a ride to decide.

    This and that...
If your planning on going with the 6112's, make sure your future height adjustments isn't going to mess too much with your ride quality.

    A few minor things...
Done the research. Budgeted $1750 for a suspension upgrade, lift was secondary

6112/5160s, Icon AAL without factory overload (for now), U bolts, ECGS bushing + tool + race press all for around $1640

If you're lifting at all, get ECGS bushing.

If you're lifting above 2", get UCAs.

If you're lifting above 2" and offroading a lot, extended brake lines are a must.

If you're lifting above 3", a diff drop/trans mount drop are suggested.

If I'm wrong point it out. This is what I've learned over the past week.

I put my 5160s on without a problem.

6112s are backordered so they'll be here in a week or 2.

AALs just got delivered today with u bolts.

Borrow a good spring compressor or have someone assemble the coilovers for you. Do not use those cheap MacPherson strut compressors you see at harbor freight. Coilovers on our trucks use a lot more preload than a civic MacPherson strut, they bend, bind, then jam.

If you go with Bilstein, you can get stock ride height at the lowest spring perch setting. The highest gives you about 2.5". With the AAL and NO overload spring I'm expecting to use the 3rd perch and be raked .5"-1"

IF YOU HAVE A LIL TACO LEAN...

Do not counter it by setting one coilover higher than the other. That messes with preload, therefore messes with damping. Use a 1/4" shim for about 1/2" lift on the drivers side. It should level out in a week or so.

5160s have a brake relocation bracket and don't need extended brake lines as an fyi.

That's correct if you're not going to offroad a lot. It'll bring the brake line up about an inch.

It's recommended that you get longer brake lines if you're going to be off road with lots of flexing opportunities as a precaution.

HS offroad suggests doing the 5/6th notch for driver side lean. Does it really make a difference with preload? I actually wondered this myself... but seems everyone does the 5/6th notch thing.
