I guess the truth depends on the version, the editor, the original writer, or the translator, or the interpretation.

You're right, that's a completely sane way to approach this book that is basically a manual for managing an entire civilization.

I'm glad it's not an instruction book on "how to fly a plane."

I agree with that, but I can hear the old "God has a plan" line coming any minute now.... Unless people aren't willing to admit "God has a plan" = "you are all just sheep". :D

So your implying we are all predestined?

God can look into the future and know it if he chooses. But that doesn't mean he is the cause of it.

It's like a weather forecaster. He can predict and see what the weather will be like many days in advance. But that doesn't mean he is the cause of it or wants the weather to be that way.

And the weather forecasters are rarely right. Same with religion. Any good weather forecaster will tell you they can predict accurately a few hours, but beyond that it's guess work. But great example because it's the same with religion.

Yup ^_^ I don't trust the weathermen that can't get their forecasts right from one day to another, and I can SEE them. And HEAR them. And know they're REAL. God/religion on the other hand....well.....

Ok, so maybe a couple days now. I saw a couple quotes this morning that said 3 days, and after that it's a guess. Still not good. If I was wrong so many times at my job, they would fire me! :D

I was raised Mormon. In case it hasn't been answered, no Mormons are not technically Christians. Though they do believe in Christ, and most of them think they are. :)

I guess you could call me a lapsed Wiccan. For anyone who is really interested, I'm a high mage that occasionally communes with the powers. I don't observe the sabbats though.

Its much easier for you to have a god who can steer the entire universe by will, or not. Whatever.

Here's a being who can "hear your thoughts," yet, can not act to save a baby from being raped. It will not act, or it can not act, to save a million people from slaughter. Torture. Disease. Devastating weather. Floods. Murder. Hunger. Terrorism. Earthquakes. Tsunamis.

If I saw an old lady fall in the street, I would act. If I had the ability to see all people falling in the street, and they were about to be hit by accident- I would want to help. Anf if I had the power to help, I would do so. Or rightly be called a coward terrorist.

If there is a god, I call it out. I call it a coward. And most importantly, it should know that I deny its existence until it proves itself real. Why would I bother with anything that has no reality. Like a dragon or astrology or magic?

You dont believe in astrology do you? Magic? Miraculous magical things?

Its all hogwash. And you guys lie to yourselves all day long. You say "god is real." Then you say "you must have faith." A real thing takes no faith to believe in for it is already real and would require no faith. The moon- do you "have faith" that it is real? No. It IS real. It just is. You can even prove it, given a lot of money and time, or access to the moon rocks NASA brought back.

The trajectory for religion is the opposite of the trajectory for knowledge. The earth isnt flat. Were not the center of the universe. Nor is the sun. Astronomy is not VS religion, it simply dispels the myths. And religion keeps backing away from technology and knowledge because one day we will have no need for faith. We may read the myth and the prose, but we will let religion die, as have many thousand other religions before yours. Thor. Not believed in. Pele. Few think its real.

Want more gods? http://www.godchecker.com/ Thousands of em ready to be debunked. Collect the whole set.

Sorry but I don't remember if you said you believed in the Bible or not...

You say the Earth isn't flat. Correct. And the Bible mentions that way before all the people believed that it was. The Bible is no science book and it rarely talks about science. But all the times it does, it was correct. The Bible was written over such a long period of time and by numerous men, and yet it has a common theme. It doent contradict itself either.

That said, according to the Bible we are currently living in the "last days" and Satan is the ruler of this world. Hence all the bad stuff you talked about is not a result of a lack of God.

There are still prophesies to come true in a very short time. You want God to act and he will. He will destroy all the wicked ones. That also includes those not doing his will.

I can provide scriptures if you would like. But you probably do not.

And I do not believe in magic. :)

I was born and raised as a methodist, but since high school I have lost interest. During my christian days I also worked in a christian book/music store. No offense to anybody because I know not nearly everybody is this way but, I found during my time working in that book store that so many christians were very judgmental people, especially my boss. Lots of them were also total hypocrites, one of my grandmothers included (really racist).

Anyway, since then I kinda do my own thing, live and let live. Follow whatever religion you want, I just choose to live a good life, and not be an ass to people. I guess agnostic would be the proper way to describe what I am.
