So, left half and/or right half, but no 1/3 option?

I just looked at the 'import duty' list. Be careful about importing plywood in $$ values above your duty exempt amounts...

    UPDATE: 10/17/18

I have another member on here helping me with the CAD drawings so I can send them to CNC for cutting (I need specific file types that Sketch Up cannot offer, but we are moving towards something awesome). I cannot promise that the renderings will be as in depth as I originally promised, but I am still working with sketch up to give you guys the most accurate representation possible. Nonetheless, with the interest I have received from all of you we will hopefully have some pictures of the real deal here soon enough. I have seen a lot of interest in half systems so it should be really fun seeing how all of these turn out!

Again, please do not hesitate to ask questions or provide me with any feedback that you may have!

So my goal is to do a 1/2 bed drawer with slides. I’ve got homemade slides on my current one and for the effort of using square tubing and roller bearings, imho it doesn’t make any sense not to use quality slides.

I want a drawer so I don’t have to climb into the bed to get stuff.

I also want opening ‘hatches’ so that I can access the space fore and aft of the wheel wells.

I haven’t decided whether to make the drawer full length or put another small cubby foreword of the drawer.

And lastly, I will want a ledge along the side of the entire cabinet so I can put a piece of plywood across and make the platform over the entire bed if wanted. I haven’t decided whether to piano hinge this or not.

I considered your idea to go to 12” vs 9” but then you couldn’t simply put the plywood in to create a full deck.

I have the tools to do this but I’m really interested in what you come up with as a CNC kit.

Also, I will use2 part epoxy and marine paint to seal it all up. Depending on how sturdy it’s i MIGHT consider glazing it but I highly doubt that will be necessary.

So far your pics and ideas have been a great inspiration!!!

I really dig the V2. Right now I have a bed rack so I'm concerned about moisture damage and I throw a lot of surf/dive gear in the back. Any thoughts on weather proof deck material?

I have had a bunch ask but I still don't have a good solution unless you were to use a marine grade epoxy to seal the entire system. Adding a bulb seal to the drawers would be easy to do as well.

I’ll comment on weatherproofness later. I’m busy right now. In general, you can make it weather proof. But it’s work - and messy.

Ok. With epoxy and marine grade paint you can make it as waterproof as you like. I would also suggest marine ply.

People build boats using these materials.

But they’re expensive and time consuming.

I’ve been following the progress of this project and am very impressed with the design and am thinking this is going to be the system I go with.

I’ve read every post on the thread (I’m pretty sure) and there hasn’t been much mentioned in the way of where a fridge / cooler might fit in. My fridge lid barely has enough clearance under the bed rack to open, so mounting on top won’t work.

Do you have a variation in the works with a spot for a fridge / drop slide?

There are really a few options.

    1. Use my bedslide kit to slide the fridge out from underneath the bedrack.

    2. We can do a solid top like standard and you can use something like the Alu-Cab tilting slide or the Tembo Tusk drop slide.

    3. We can do custom drawers with a designated spot for the fridge where you can install a standard slide.

    Nice.

Another question to add to all the variables (sorry!)

Would you consider selling a kit and plans - basically everything minus the plywood?

Seems that shipping of the plywood might be a wasteful expense to many folks, but having the hardware/bearings/misc metal all come in kit form in one order would be a huge value. Also this way people could choose whatever grade ply they’d want (a/c; b/d; marine etc.)
