I think you’re just adding something else that can break, an additional filter would certainly restrict the flow of ATF more. The stock filter will suffice IMO.

My chief concern is that tend to think the POs of this truck didn't do much more than basic oil changes so decent chance this transmission fluid is pretty nasty and old. I am a bit concerned that when doing the flush, I'll dislodge a bunch of junk that has accumulated from neglect. I'd rather capture that junk in an in-line filter that I can replace in say 10,000 miles versus relying on the mesh filter in the pan. I agree it is adding complication and failure points to the system, but I think the benefits are worth the risk.

I appreciate the viewpoint and concern, however, I added these to my last older car 93 SC400 and never had issues so used them before and drove that for quite some time.

Took it out on the interstate for the first time since installing the shims. Ran it up to 80. Drives like a new truck. No vibes whatsoever, and I didnt hear the noise Im used to hearing at 45 mph either. I may have a slight brake shudder when coming off the interstate, but I have new rotors and ceramic pads sitting on the shelf. The Teflon leaf liners seem to be working too, no squeaking at all. I'm kicking myself for not doing all this earlier.

Flush as in shoot pressurized ATF through the system?

I’ve heard nothing but bad things from people who have done that. A simple drain and fill several times would replace all of the old fluid, and prevent debris from being dislodged.

I had my Gary Fisher stolen in Bakersfield off my rack while I was passing through. I wasn't even gone but a few minutes. Fuck that place

You’ll be fine then. If you want an in-line filter go ham, but personally I wouldn’t run one just because it restricts flow and adds another point of failure.

My friend had a 2004 Double Cab and lived in Modesto for a few years in a locked apartment complex.

I've done a mod or two
The magnefine filters are always a good option on a high mileage trans or PS system. Theyre very safe too, if they clog they just bypass.

The L410 is the one to have. It's reliable and bolted to a GM transmission. The gaskets are pretty substandard in some respects, but it can be an oil tight engine if it's looked after properly.
