I went into the dealer already pre financed through my bank, after a full day of battling on price we finally come to terms and then the sales guy walks out with a credit application. I told him I'm already financed through my bank(he knows this) and am not interested in their financing. He then tells me it is a requirement to fill out a credit application regardless, I was already so sick of dealing with these fucks I just stood up and left. The sales manager tried to follow me out and bring me back in , I told him I cant wait for the this industry gets fixed and shook up and makes them obsolete because they are scum.

Ended up taking their terms to a different dealer who was much more pleasant and was able to get the deal done.

No I mean all sales people, LOL. Degrees do not make them less of an asshole. If anything it contributes.

So how do you complain about dealers being shady when you are condoning shady and slimy behaviour? Act how you expect to be treated. You act like a douchebag and you should expect to be treated like a douchebag. Fraudulent behaviour to pressure a dealership into making a deal? Sounds like you should be the one selling cars at one of those less than reputable dealers.

I really wish I read this site before buying my last new car.
Spent 8 hours (yes 8) in the dealership. Ended up leaving with the exact car at the exact advertised price...
If it wasnt one thing it was another (anti theft etched glass, gap insurance, on and on). No thanks, let me talk to my manager, its already installed, take it off, we cant..

One mistake was I let them know I refused to get a loan for more than 2.5-3%. Guess what the final APR was... 2.99% lol.

They even parked the car outside the big window in front of the desk I was naive enough to sit all day at. I finally told them that I was tired of looking at a car they dont want me to purchase, stood up, and literally before I took 4 steps the deal was done.

My next dealership negotiation will be a 1 hour or peace out situation. I was too polite and patient about telling them to stuff it.

Edit: the one thing I did right was approach 4 other dealers to match the advertised price of the dealer I ended up buying at. Even had one of the other dealers laugh at me saying theres no way they can take that much of a loss.

Hell-- in good ole MO the state can't figure what the hell is going on with "important stuff" much less regulating what car dealers say and "do"! So this is NOT the case in "most places"

Then you hate everyone, including yourself!
Everyone sells something every damn day but, I understand you sentiment.
I am not a salesman, yet at work I have to sell my ideas to my coworkers and top mgmt. I have to sell my performance during reviews. At home I have to sell my decisions and idea to the rest of my family members. I had to sell my decision to buy this truck to my wife!
See what I mean? I meet dicks in all walks of life, not just sales lol.

This is true theoretically and in writing, but not necessarily in practice. Most dealer sites have fine print somewhere saying that “this offer includes all possible incentives, for which you may not be eligible” or “there is at least one vehicle [read: only one] for which this deal is available” and so on. Unfortunately it’s easy for dealers to squirm out of any real regulation. Sales, like their service departments, can also lie about their fees and what is truly required - as long as their truth in lending statements/purchase agreements are buttoned down, they’re essentially safe. Lastly, consider the Department responsible for enforcement of dealer ads...

This. In OPs case, it seems like they flat out bs’ed him and it was a shitty move. Unfortunately dealers have few consequences and a strong lobbying presence to be sure of that (especially here in VA and NC).

I think if a car salesmans lips are moving... they are lying.

I’m all for going to a no haggle pricing system for buying cars. Dealerships need to have more laws preventing them from pulling this kind of bullshit.

Lexus started doing it I wish they would do the same with the Toyotas given its the same major corporate entity.

Being in car sales and being able to sleep well knowing you haven't lied to anyone is completely your choice. I know that I have personally never taken advantage of anyone because I'm not that kind of person. It's just like someone else said in here, you find a salesman that you trust that always takes good care of you, and stick with them. I came from a brand that advertised the right way when I started, and then changed to adding in all rebates, and excluding freight. I had no problem telling anyone how that price was listed and adding it back up in front of them. If you can't, there's a problem. The advertising laws are different state to state, and know that 99% of the time, the salesman has nothing to do with the pricing. 100% of the time, it's an incredibly shitty way to do business. Now that I'm at a highline brand that advertises at sticker, and negotiates from there, I don't miss that uncomfortable talk at all.

There is one and only one way to be in the drivers seat when making a car deal. Don’t be in a rush or need to make a deal today. If your credit score sucks or your need for a new vehicle right now you are screwed. I start my new vehicle shopping 12 months in advance of when I actually want to make a deal. Once I narrow it down to the make and model I am still 3-6 months from making a deal.

I am always honest with the expectation of receiving the same. Because I am researching so far in advance there is no need for pressure tactics and will switch salespersons if they try it again after letting them know my timeline. I research the shit out of my purchase right to every last detail. I can answer more questions about the vehicle than the salesman can. I research with the intent to order a vehicle to my specs and not off the lot. I have driven hours (as much as an 8 hour round trip) to see other colours in person or to test drive a manual transmission.

I never respond to ads on sale. Those may be a vehicle that aren’t to my specs or are a vehicle mired in fine print. The ONLY numbers I ever look at are the offer sheet. That is a contract and is binding. I buy on what I want (features and options) and make a deal on what they offer. I may be ready to buy but I don’t make the deal because of their numbers.

This isn’t rocket science. Put yourself in the position to choose what deal to accept. Good credit score, no rush to make a deal, willing to wait or order exactly what you want. I look at advertised sales as an indication of how bad they are looking to move vehicles this month and not as an offer sheet. Once I am in the dealership if the sale price advertised and the prices on what I really want don’t jive I know they are just trying to get people in the door. No need to get upset. I just keep looking until the day when my purchase and their offer match up.

I am pissing off the dealership now as I am independently negotiating each part of the deal from the sales price to the finance price and Extended warranty. We are currently $1289 bucks off on the sales price $40 bucks off on the payment and $700 off on the extended warranty.....

IF you have the money, get the best price you can from them and try to lower the price even more by agreeing to get THEIR financing offer. Remember, the lowest price is the best. First check you get from them, pay in full with a cashier's check.
    They lie, lie back.
Done it three times and saved thousands...Nissan for daughter, Camry for wife and taco for me. All from Earnhardt. They don't like me...

I brought my step daughters to the dealer one time (ages 6 and 8) told them to go play (in the show room) while I talked to the dealer. They kept climbing around the cars beeping horns shutting doors, generally annoying people and the sales guys. After about 20 min of all that and the sales guy asking me to get my kids, I told him what I wanted for the vehicle and until I get that I cant deal with them and you. I got what I wanted for my trade in and 1000 below what they wanted, they also included a maintenance package. Finally a good use for kids. OBTW the kids were in my site the whole time and didn't damage anything just a pain.
