    I dunno, I got the car cheap, only 2K and it was technically still running and driving though I just wouldn't have trusted it. It's clean, so with the mechanicals at 100% maybe the most I could eek out would be like 4500 to the right person. But I'm doing it more for me than the next guy

    I want one just to tell people I own a Rolls-Royce. Those 80's ones can be had for about $30k.

    But man if I had $30k, I'm buying a DeLorean because I enjoy slow underpowered cars with shitty gearboxes.

    No current plans to sell I'll tell you that much, kinda the nice part of having a low buck vehicle that you really enjoy, you don't ever feel the pressure of I need to sell it before the value goes down. The 280ZX is just now hitting some of the highest prices they've ever been worth, the 300ZX just isn't there yet, so if by some chance it does become worth a pretty penny (from nostalgia or whatever motivates the market) maybe I'd consider selling. I was talking $4500 before all the turbo stuff and performance modifications.

    So the whole reasoning behind why I bought the 5-Lug was not necessarily to make a profit, hell - not even to break even, but to tear it apart and restore it. I know the engine is most likely 100% fine - but I'd still like to tear it down to the block and rebuild it. You guys think new pistons and rods are necessary? Or even re-honing the cylinders and planing the block?

    Those 5VZ rebuild kits are pricey, $1k on RockAuto.

    Pistons and rods are probably fine, unless you abuse them they dont really wear on their own (piston skirts could have damage but it's unlikely), Rings and a hone as well as bottom end bearings would be a good starter and you can work your way up. I have some great sources for information on that if you decide its something you actually want to do

    Also if I was you I wouldn't start with a toyota v6 to learn on, very expensive to rebuild and since you're bound to make a mistake it won't be cheap to correct. Maybe start with an Iron Duke or a Chevy 4.3 or 350
