well bout got into a fire fight tonight. We sneaked into a clearing and some knuckle head kind of popped over the hill behind us, didnt even know we were there. So we were waiving my orange face mask around trying to get his attention. Then I squeaked the cow call a few times and finally saw us. Then his buddy decided to sit there running his atv talking about how they should shoot a round up in the air over us! to which my friend responded with a dont think thats a good idea...then they mumbled something about "oh sorry". The joys of public land. I pulled my pistol just in case they started some crap but luckily it didnt come to that...

Always frustrating. I've been on stand on public land before at first light and had other hunters walk up on me because they'd scouted the area as well and wanted to stand in the same general place and not realize I'm there until I wave at them, cough, or something (even though I'm wearing a blaze orange parka, hat, and gloves). They've never gotten mad enough to threaten to touch a round off, but I have had them tramp in a big circle completely around me making as much noise as possible.

I also carry a pistol when I'm hunting, though. Never know who you're going to run into out in the woods. Fortunately, I've never needed to unholster it yet, but the only time I don't have it is when I'm hunting National Wildlife Refuge land (because they're banned & if you violate it the crime's federal)

Yeah normally I dont go out during rifle season on any elk(3days ends today) then its bull only till the 24th. I figured it wouldnt be so bad during the week but apparently this week it was! I have my rifle rounds but I always carry a pistol here. theres some nutjobs around that I would rather take my chances with a bear than mess with the nutjobs..

Went out yesterday evening. Didn't see anything in the field, so I climbed down with about 5 minutes of shooting light left. Poked my head into another field and nothing. Started walking back on my path on a fields edge and a coyote popped out about 50 yards away. He was nice enough to wait and stare at me while I put my ear muffs on before I shot. Needless to say, one fawn killer down. Tomorrow morning its going to be in the mid 30's, should get the deer moving!
