Ideally I'd want to work on a v6 or v8 since I'd be rebuilding the 5VZ one day.

Were the 350's always Carb'd, or did they go to EFI later in life? @Speedytech7

There are some generational things that happen with those, eventually they become the Vortec engine that you know and love today (which later becomes LS derived) but even then they make kits to even make those newer Vortec 350s carbd. The Vortec heads are actually a bolt on improvement for smallblock 350s haha. But yeah for a while the 350 in the corvette had the weird crossfire and spider ignition and injection and some of the trucks and vans had TBI

Does 2 Bolt vs. 4 Bolt really make a difference in value? The 4 bolts are hard to find, they were only on 3/4 and 1 ton 4x4 Pickups and some other hard to find cars.

Also, does the engine revision really matter? Like would a 1980 350 be profoundly different than a 1990 350?

A 1990 350 might be a vortec by then and there are differences in parts youll need but say 90% or so will be the same. Its all tony changes over time, its is largely the same since 1955 really.

Wait what i miss, why @BartMaster1234 wanna build a vortex motor?

He should just get a junk yard motor out a truck, new rods and pistons and a big ass turbo and inter cooler and call it good.

You think I'd be better off with an old 350, or a new 350?

Were they truly Carb'd until they discontinued them in 2002? I never found out if they switched to EFI

No around late 80s most of them were TBI and in the sports cars they were MFI.

Doesn't really matter, you'll be able to rebuild it all the same

I'm just practicing a rebuild before I tackle the 5VZ. Not looking to do anything fancy on the 350 like turbo it, or forge it. Just do it up with all stock rated components and get rid of it.

LQ/LS are more expensive to buy and build than a typical old small block even though they're extremely similar in design

The corvette LS for example? I wasn’t planning on an LS, happy with the 350.

Because rebuilding a perfectly good motor that you don't plan to subject to more boost or any real use is kinda dim
